UMass Law School approved by Trustees
The Standard Times reports in this article that the Southern New England School of Law will become a part of the UMass system. Great news for our town and UMass Dartmouth, I think. Congratulations to Chancellor MacCormack and the UMass community!
I read in The Herald News today that some state reprentatives from around Amherst are thinking about filing a bill to prevent UMass from using ANY state money for Southern New England School of Law if it accepts the school as a gift. It's just one more potential blockade thrown up by the private law schools which are afraid of some competition. This, too, we will overcome. Maybe our reps should file a bill requiring UMass Amherst to pay taxes to the state and quit squandering scarce financial resources.
Thank you, UMass Board of Trustees. You did the right thing despite enormous pressure from the private law schools in Boston.
