Police respond to threat

I received this notice via NIXLE

DARTMOUTH POLICE DEPARTMENT--
THREATS OF VIOLENCE AGAINST DARTMOUTH HIGH SCHOOL

On Monday, March 1, 2010 at approximately 07:30 AM, Dartmouth Police School Resource Officer, Paul Arruda received a tip from a student regarding a threat of violence being made towards the student body at Dartmouth High School.

Officer Arruda was advised by this student, that a 17 year old New Bedford male, identified as Sean DeAlmeida from 397 Rivet Street, sent a threatening Instant Message via computer to a friend of his ex-girlfriend.

The threatening message allegedly sent by DeAlmeida stated that he was going to go to Dartmouth High School and shoot several people then commit suicide. It was stated that DeAlmeida was upset over a recent breakup with a girlfriend.

The student that provided the information stated that she is very familiar with DeAlmeida and believed that he would follow through with the threat. The student informed Officer Arruda that DeAlmeida has acted violently in the past and had access to a gun. School officials were immediately notified of this potential threat.

Immediately after Officer Arruda received this information, members from the Dartmouth Police Department’s Patrol and Detective Divisions promptly responded to the school and took proper security measures.

A brief time later, DeAlmeida was located at his Rivet Street home. DeAlmeida agreed to speak with the police ...

... and voluntarily came to the Dartmouth Police Department for questioning.

Detectives questioned DeAlmeida about the allegation being made against him. DeAlmeida stated to detectives that he was upset and did in fact write and send the Instant Message to his ex-girlfriend’s friend.

DeAlmeida was charged with threats causing evacuation or disruption of a school. DeAlmeida will be arraigned at Third District Court in the near future.

Excellent Job ! We always complain about the police and the job they do or sometimes dont do, but they are ALWAYS there when we need them.
The real hero in this is the girl that came forward, without her brave actions who knows what would have happenend. She did the RIGHT thing and should be praised. Good stong work by thoses ALL involved. Keep up the good work.

I agree with the first post...but how will the courts handle the issue??How many female abuse victims call the police and the courts don't act in time, while the perp is still waiting to act?? Not until he acts, according to the law, the police can only bring additional charges. How can we stop this malcontent from causing personal harm??

Great job by the person who brought it to Officer Arruda's attention. Great job by Officer Arruda alerting the School Staff and immediately investigating the threat.

Twice in a week the DPP is in the news for great work. Truely these men and women are a fantastic asset to our town, I hope Chief Lee appreciates the professional he group he is about to lead.

Speaking as someone who once had a brass tide clock thrown at him while he was sleeping, it's not just males that are guilty of being the "perps".

As a parent with two DHS students enrolled I'd like to thank the Dartmouth police department officers and leadership for taking such quick action. Thank you....thank you....thank you all.

I am the mother of the girl who received the messages and came forward. She did not tell me or her dad about it before telling the school officials but because she was afraid she did tell, which we are so proud. Because of this situation that she did not choose to be in other students have told her they cannot talk to her because their parents said so. Can I ask you this...what if she hadn't come forward and he had attacked the students? I am so proud of both girls and how they are handling such an adult situation. We are here for them. And yes thank you to the school personnel and officer arruda.

To Mom @ 2:35. Your daughter did the right thing. I as a grandmother of a student at DHS would like to thank her and all the people involved. Any parent who would tell their children not to speak to the girls are the ones who should be grateful. Shame on them.

Sorry to hear about that, children can be judgemental but it will pass.

Great job to everyone involved, from the cops guarding the outside of the school to the administrators and detectives getting this mentally disturbed person the help he needs while protecting the kids.

Great job!!! This student did the right thing and happy to see that school officials and police followed through on that lead. It makes kids feel more comfortable about coming forward with these threats when they know someone will listen and act and they don't have to be afraid of retaliation.

Kuddos to the Dartmouth Police!!

I wonder if Michaud would be critical of POLICE responding to this threat with lights and sirens.

Joe is a Monday morning quarterback if I ever saw one.

I HEAR THE COPS NEED TO CALL THE ANOINTED ONE,AND GET HIS PERMISSION BEFORE THEY ACTIVATE THEIR "BLUES", WHAT A CONTROL FREAK, THAT GOD APRIL IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER.

How come Michaud didn't have Hodgson deploy his mobile command unit to the school (with the lights and siren off of course)?

If I understand correctly Michaud knows alot about screwing Dartmouth. His law firm collected a ton of money when he and his firm sued the town.

Ambulances run with lights and siren for a sprained ankle both to the scene and to the hospital. Firemen race around in their personal vehicles with very small redlights and often no siren when a fire alarm goes off. Michaud says nothing!!!

Yet when in a small time frame 2 cruisers are involved in accidents (which are still under investigation) he immediately decided without ANY facts that the PD MUST be a fault. Clearly he is a lawyer first and not interested at all in Dartmouth.

Shameful that an elected official would make such statments on the radio without a complete investigation.

This is just one more reason Joe needs to GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
