Senate Ways and Means budget mirrors House 4% cuts

From the Massachusetts Budget and Policy Center, this link is a preliminary analysis of the state Senate version of the Commonwealth's budget.
This budget closely folows the House's version and contains 4% cuts in local aid and Chapter 70 school aid. Not great news ... ...but there is no good news given the status of the state's revenues. The Senate may not propose new revenue or spending in accordance with our constitution.

4% cuts to local aid and chapter 70 school aid but we continue to spend money like there is no tomorrow. But guess what? There is a tomorrow. What then??

We will continue to re-negotiate contracts for insurance and ambulance services which combined will save us over $400,000 annually going forward. We will continue to seek to consolidate and shrink our workforce by looking to regional alternatives. We will continue to correct the misguided policies of the past 20 years to ensure we have enough money for tomorrow...and the days that follow. This town will weather these cuts without a flinch BECAUSE we have done the above chicken little. We don't have a financial problem because we are forcing accountability for every dollar and we have new eyes looking over everything.

and we had an override...you forgot that, and we pay for trash pick...you forgot that...that is the MAIN reason for our fiscal "stability"..it was balanced on the backs of the taxpayers.

Uh yeah I believe that it is ultimately always the taxpayers who pay for government. They voted the override and the PAYT system has proven to be a total success.

While we have a big stab fund and are continuing to stabilize things going forward.
