The never ending story (final emails)

The materials I have posted so far bring us up to Feb 9th, 2006. On that date, Attorney Bartulis met with two members of the Select Board, Ms. Copley, Mr. Gagne and Mr. Iacaponi. This link shows the emails that went back and forth following that meeting and up to the point where Att'y Bartulis forwarded the automatic protection language to the town along with caveats ...

that he didn't think it a good idea. The italicized blue wording at the link is mine and not in the original. The post about those warnings is here.
As you can see from the final email, even though the job protection clause ended up in 5 additional contracts besides Ms Copley's, Att'y Bartulis does not seem to have crafted those contracts. Which begs the question, who did? I know that it was not the Town Counsel and I asked Mr. Gagne who drafted them at a Select Board meeting but got no answer.

The REAL reason for the contracts has again been exposed by Doris Copley (in her own words) in her email to Mr. Bartulis.

She says: "I’d like to present the contracts to the Select Board for signing at the 2/27 meeting. It’s getting very close to election time and we need to get them signed at this meeting."

Ms. Copley's pal Bob Miller was headed to an election defeat and the Finance Committee had dared to ask the question "What exactly do you you DO, Ms. Copley?"

In rushing these contracts through in secret, Ms. Copley was simply trying to cover her own butt, at the town's expense.

Accounts for why she addressed the Board on at least one occasion, "explaining" how "valuable" she is to the Town.

There seemed to be no relevancy in her appearing before the Board at that time.

I think the puzzle is coming together. Miller was in charge for too long he thought he could anything he wanted. And he did!
We are now suffering for the contracts that he and the para-legal spearheaded. This is dirty politics at its worse!
Thank you Diane Gilbert!

Bill,

This post ties to links commenting on the Lee situation. Will you please do me a favor regarding the photograph in question and use the word "toddler" in describing it,as everyone should, since "young boy" can be misleading since it could refer to a child far beyond the actual age in this photo - a year and a half. Lee's only mistake was in linking the youth commission's site to a personal site.

Such fiction. You people are something else thinking you've got everything figured out - that your above it all. Using people as puppets and being used as puppets yourselves. "I think the puzzle is coming together" - what a joke. Small minds at work.

Fiction? Not at all. Instead, the conclusions you are reading from the majority of the town (and don't like or agree with) are based on a careful reading and common sense analysis of the facts. As the saying goes, "Facts are stubborn things", Mr or Mrs 5:28PM.

I stole most of these ideas from others but it's a decent list of what we could do to stop this contract mess from happening again...........

Remove Bob Carney from office in April.

Get rid of all remaining sweetheart contracts. Rewite the contracts if the department heads are doing their jobs.

Change town rules to make these kinds of contracts illegal.

Put someone in charge of reviewing all contracts.

Remove Nat Dias from office in April 2010.

Remove anyone else involved in the scheme to grant tenure.

Boy, she sure was busy, and she wasn't doing any work that WE were paying her for. She was too busy working for herself to pay attention to working for the interest of the residents of Dartmouth.

I'm not sure setting up the provisions of her own contract was in her job description. Where was Mike when all this was going on?

Oh, yes, he benefited, too.

Is there anyone out there that can HONESTLY justify these contracts and the actions of the five individuals involved? Love to hear how.

The sweet heart contracts represent a dark time in Dartmouth politics. These contracts were crafted and rushed through without open meeting session on purpose.
Our SB sold us down the river! Thanks to Diane Gilbert for being so on the ball, we are now getting rid of them. shame on the former board.
