Apponagansett bridge, padanaram bridge are both located in South end of town where all the rich people live. As a liberal left winger, I believe the higher income people should pay more tax/fee's. Allow me to introduce myself. North end white collar worker, who never uses the Apponagansett or padanaram bridge. Dartmouth trash pick up has a pay as you throw program that is called a fee, and 1 or 2 dollar bags to put your garbage inside or the garbage will not be picked up. All this garbage ends up on my side of town. The selectmen should implement a pay as you cross fee for those people who use the above mentioned bridges.
Hey you're so smart you ought to know the per capita income of North Dartmouth is actually higher than SOuth Dartmouth - so the North Dartmouth folks must be the 'really' rich people. Oh and by the way in case you had'nt realized the dump is in South Dartmouth and we have to deal with all the trash from the North part of town blowing allover the south part of town.
Ridiculous arguments don't you agree?
First of all, I doubt your claim of being a "white collar worker". White collar workers don't generally refer to themselves as such.
Secondly, the garbage ends up everywhere and maybe we agree that PAYT is not the answer.
Thirdly, we are one town and you can access the southern end of town just as I can. Your post is divisive. Would you like me to put up some deer cams to figure out which kids are spray painting every telephone pole and tree on Potomska Rd? My guess is that they are good kids from all ends of town that are just making some bad decisions.
Finally, here is my thought on the Padanaram bridge. Blow it up and make the causeway a municipal marina. It is just as easy to drive around the inner bay as it is to drive over the bridge for virtually everyone except those in the southern end of Padanaram proper and those on Smith Neck Rd where I just so happen to own property. The days of Padanaram being a center of commerce are gone. It is nothing more than a whistle stop now. Maybe blowing up the bridge would make it a destination. That's if the residents would allow any type of attractions.
Why do some people copy and paste their posts to multiple spots? Do you think what you had to say was that profound?
I stopped reading your post twice when you identified yourself as a "liberal left winger".
MILLER WAS RIGHT...JOE MICHAUD IS RUNNING FOR STATE REP. HE PULLED PAPERS THE OTHER DAY
In my opinion
Why 75% of town voters do not vote in town elections, but 47% vote when the town has a referendum question to increase property tax. I'm one of many voters who will not take the time to vote in a town election, but if you attach a ballot question to raise my taxes I'll vote against it every time. My one exception was two years ago when the police department needed additional funds to hire seven new police officers. I've never had the need to call for a policeman, but a couple of years ago my neighbor had a hearth attack while cutting grass. Before I could say ALACOSAM three police officers came from somewhere I began some type of chest pressure and put my neighbor into a waiting ambulance. My neighbor is still cutting brass, thanks to the quick action of the Dartmouth police. I see police officers driving/patrolling our road way and I try to figure out why anyone would want the job of policeman. These men/women are the most important part of any town. A policeman works 24/7.... 365 days a year including holidays. I don't know how much money they earn, but it is not enough.
As for voting for elected town officials, it's a waste of time.
I think we should blow up the bridge and have gondolas and barges instead. About a $20 fee for the basic gondola, $50 if you want wine, candlelight, and music. Fifty dollars for the basic barge and $100 if you want caviar and crackers. Maybe we will not have to hear about another override for awhile?
Oh and by the way in case you had'nt realized the dump is in South Dartmouth and we have to deal with all the trash from the North part of town blowing allover the south part of town.
Ridiculous arguments don't you agree?
Ummmm what dump? Are you referring to the transfer station? Very little trash is taken to the transfer station.
NEXT!!
As it relates to garbage and dumps. Last week, I traveled to the south Dartmouth transfer station and dropped off some lose yard items. You know the kind of items that won't fit into the PAYT orange bags. I entered the gate and drove past the magic kingdom shed, some one bellowed a blood curling scream, where are you going? I'm dropping off some yard items. The town worker yelled, You don't have a sticker! Where can I get a sticker, I asked. Go to the water sewer building and pay 50 dollars for a sticker. I drove to the water department building and picked up a sticker but it didn't cost 50 dollars. The receptionist explained that the sticker is free. Great, I headed back to the transfer station. Once again the town worker yelled, where are you going? You must get weighed before dumping your garbage. I drove onto the scale and waited when a voice said OK. I dropped off my small load and returned back to the scales. This time the town worker told me to get out of my truck and pay inside. You owe the town 12 dollars. Why am I paying 12 dollars for disposing of my trash? Because that's how it works, said the town worker. Another town worker came out from some other room and told me to pay or they will call the cops and when you use the transfer station get a sticker and if you don't have orange bags you pay by the ton for dropping off garbage. My wife, who didn't want me to get into trouble, explained to the town workers that she will make out a check for the amount. As I drove away, I noticed the two town workers giving each other the high five.
To 8:23 a.m.
Why don't you report this to the select board? If indeed the employess acted like this then they should not be working for our town. I am sure it will be easy enough to find out who was working at those hours. I am sure there are a lot of good people who would love to have their jobs.
Hey, Bill,
Now that you are chairperson on the SB have you given up on your blog? There must be something going on in town to blog about.
Why is Little Bridge no longer going to have a sidewalk to fish off of?
Who made this decision?
Wow I am so shocked. I usually dont respond but..I must.
I visit the transfer station at least twice a week. I have found the employees there very helpful.
and polite.
As for this residents experience.
perhaps he needs to be more educated. the PAYT and the "fees for certain items" has been around for quite sometime. He stated his sticker was "free" well obviously he isnt educated well. He had to pay the $80 to be able to get the sticker for "free". Igoranance isnt an excuse, this system has been in place since 2007.
As forpaying $12 and the whole scale episode..simple...did you not see the sign upon entering "All loose trash goes on scale". Oh thats right, you're being ignorant.
I dont blame the town employees (if they did do as he claimed)
after all, dealing with ignorant people is always a challenge.
I find this whole episode hard to beleive. The older man (Billy) that works there..has a grouchy appearance, but is quite nice to deal with. The younger man (name unknown) actually helps folks with large items to drop off..He seems to be a gentleman also. Is it possible you were simply having a bad day and its easy to verbally beat up town employees? Well I take exception, if you find their job so easy then why not volunteer to work with them just one day. Im sure your attitude will change....Oh thats right, you're better than them. My hat goes off to all the town workers, who work with less and still do a great job. (side note, Im not nor was a town employee)
Are you sure there will be no sidewalk? It looks to me that there is a curve in the side that you drive over now that would be where the sidewalk will go once they finish the other side. Why do you believe that there will be no sidewalk?
Bill..can u get an update on the road work planned for Tucker Rd from Russells Mills north? A time line would be great and when will the land taking begin?
To anonymous May 3, 2010 @ 1040 PM...Wow I am shocked. He needs to be more educated.
You mention more educated, didn't you mean better educated? You misspell five words, including (igornance) and call the poster ignorant. You indicate the resident (isnt) educated well. Did you mean is not, or isn't well educated? You indicate "he had to pay $80 to be able to get a sticker for "free." How do I get something for free, if I paid $80 for the PAYT, or did you mean to say the sticker is free for those who pay the $80 fee? You continue your word misspellings with (igornance) isn't an excuse and dealing with ignorant people is always a challenge. Thank you for spelling the last ignorant correctly.
I never made a post to correct misspelling or improper grammer. You and I are all part of what makes this town work. I make a complaint and you support the people I'm complaining about, this is fair. I do not have a bad word for you, but while reading your comment and reference to my ignorance I had to point out your lack of improper word usage and reference to misspelling of the word ignorant/and other word misspelling.
This is not uncommon with letter writing. Just click on "spell check" and you won't appear to be ignorant
