So typically elitist. The libs know so much and yet? Here we are in the worst mess since the depression. Yup you college boys have it all figured out.

Oh, just for balance CBS had the headline 'Obama's big victory' or their piece on the tax bill passage this morning. Only the MSM could label this a victory or Obama - for 2 years he has been saying the 'Bush tax cuts' were the reason for the economy's problems - this weeks he's convinced the libs in his party that the tax cuts must stay in place to prevent economic disaster. Yup Fox viewers are the dummies Bill.

Since the Republican tax cuts for wealthy Americans have been in place for 8 plus years now...where are all these jobs??? What a joke! Wake up America! Corporations are running our country and have been for a while.

Give me the corperations and rid our country of big government... government agreed that some businesses are too big to fail. I say government has failed and so has big coperations. It's called government greed and business providing the greed. Look at the UK and wait until it strikes here. It's all coming....when you put more water into a sailing ship and the ship has more water inside than that which keeps it floating...it sinks or you find a larger boat to put more water into and this is called big government spending. All in time....

Sour grapes Bill. Fox news has been instrumental in bringing the people back to reality. Ratings don't lie and in a democracy, the majority rules. Have another glass of Kool-aid on me and let the rest of the country figure how to get out this mess. The Dems have not helped one bit, only hurt.
Oh and by the way, Merry Christmas!
If we left things up to the Liberals, that would be gone too.

Yes, majority rules except in the US Senate where the Dream Act would have passed with a majority but was obstructed by the requirement for a super majority. Same for not borrowing billions to give tax breaks to Paris Hilton and a year long effort to pass a federal budget. Merry Christmas to you as well. There may be some who read this comment who not Christians and I wish them a Happy Holidays.

I completely disagree with the so-called Dream Act so am pleased to no end it did not pass.

100% of working people should pay a federal tax. It's been mentioned that if you don't fish, than you cut bait. I don't understand the meaning, but guess it must have something to do with working or doing something productive, as it relates to working. Some one stated that if you give a fish to someone they will have something to eat, but teach them how to fish, and they will fish to eat. Hmm, was it Jesus??
I've been told that 3% of our American population pay 50% of our federal tax. My math tells me that 97% of the American working population pay the other 50%. American people who do not work or earn a sum of money, less than a set amount pay no federal tax. This indicates that the 3% must be the wealthy of the American population, and the other percentage is the hard working Americans that are middle to upper middle class workers.
One of my family members, who is married and one child earn above 500 thousand dollars per year. They are in the 38% tax bracket. This amount of money paid in federal tax is 190,000 thousand dollars per year. Between my daughter and husband their business employ's fifteen workers, who all earn a substantial amount of money. The federal employment act requires the employer to provide health insurance, social security benefits, and unemployment benefits. After making mortgage payments on a one million dollar property loan, and 450,000 thousand dollar home mortgage, along with all the other tax attachments such as town, state and sales tax, they are still better off than most American workers but they went to college, didn't become involved in drugs, and became productive members of society.
They have invested their hard earned money, employe other hard working people and the liberals wanted them to pay additional federal tax because they both earn more than 250,000 thousand dollars per year. I's time to fish, or cut bait.....

I truly admit that I do not understand all the issues as it relate to tax, spending, and borrowing. The last time I felt the need to be concerned was when Jim Carter was president. Inflation was somewhere around 12 or 13% and interest on money borrowed from a bank was hoovering around 20 or 21%. I don't understand who or what was happening but I do remember asking my wife to stock up on can goods because with two children and a mortgage to pay I didn't know if I would have a job or where to find the money to meet my monetary obligations.
Ronald Reagan was elected president by a land slide, even Massachusetts voted for the man. I don't know what or how he managed the country but I can say that inflation came under control, interest rates fell and some country call Iran let the hostages go from captivity. Who was that man called Reagan or whatever. I noticed that people began to settle down and the country appeared to be moving and production, manufacturing was escalating, people had a job, money to spend, and it was like the good old days. Now we are back when Jimmy Carter was the president, no money to run the government, cities/towns not being funded for programs forced or mandated by state or federal government. Too many people out of work. Nor enough jobs for the people who want to work. The inflation is becoming a deflation, interest for borrowing money is so low that banks are begging people to borrow. I find more people with money are taking their monies out of the stock market, 401K savings have dropped through the basement and people are worried once again. Who is going to get us out of this financial mess. I don't know how. I'm willing to fight for my country because I know how to fight. I'm willing to work but can not find a job. I've taken my money out of the banks. I won't buy a new car or truck. Gasoline is so high, oil to heat my house is more than the mortgage. Some one stole my wife's Christmas wreath and she is cursing, this is a woman that never cries but I've seen her crying. I truly admit I do not understand all the issues. I trust that my congressman knows but he just points a finger at the republicans and the republicans point the finger at the democrats. Me, well I just give the finger to whom ever I see and I've never been this way. Who will save us??

Bill ,Fox news brought us the news about New Bedford Regional Airport being changed to the air cargo port of Logan and Green airports .The New Bedford airport just got an approval from the FAA to spend 20 million dollars for an airport extension that will handle 727s.

In addition the FAA is looking at any prior approvals for commercial wind turbines in Fairhaven and Dartmouth .

You won't find this information in the local news

The standard times news reporting is less local information with a lot of advertising. Time to close the door on the standard times. If you want the news, watch Fox news. Fair, balanced, and unafraid. It just can't get any better.
Romney/Palin for president 2012. Remember, you heard it here first.

Bill was vehemently opposed to the NOISE expanding the runway would create.
You see when his quality of life was put in jeopardy he wrote letters to complain. When it was the residents of Chase Rd he ignored their pleas to maintain their quality of life.

Care to explain that Bill?

First of all, best wishes Bill to you and your family for a joyous and safe holiday season. I extend the same wishes to all participants and readers in this Blog.

The sad part of economic reality over the last century has been the reliance on war to fuel the economy. One of the very few areas that has created good jobs in the US is defense spending. Having said that, why are we so much worse off than we were during the Reagan years? Defense spending traditionally augments the economy. If the rest of the economy is so bad off, then the "guns and butter" economic model cannot work well. The Republicans devastated the economy for 8 years. There is no model in existence that can turn around this kind of disaster in a short period of time. Could we be talking about 10-20 years for a turnaround? I hope not, but I would not dismiss the possibility. Economists have warned of a rebound recession for some time. Only time will tell. Almost all of this falls on the shoulders of the Republican Party. Do you ever here this on the Fox networks? I rest my case.

Selectman Bill Trimble.

I'd like to wish you and your family a Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year. During your time on the Dartmouth select board, our town is in the process of erecting two electric wind turbines that shall provide free electric to certain town buildings or operations along with increasing the towns general fund by the electrict sold to the utilities. You, along with the help of other board members, hired a new town administrator, and town financial manager. The town has approximately 5.5 million dollars in it's reserve account. Thank you for your service to our town and country.
Also this blog........I have enjoyed the rhetoric.

Fox News will also not tell you this.... http://www.southcoasttoday.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20101230/NEWS/12300383

Imagine a big time drug dealer with 4,500 lbs of marijuana in and out of our harbor and living among us. 8 million dollars worth of Mary Jane!!!! 8 million.

Great job Dartmouth Police, just another reason we NEED a harbor patrol. I hope all of you who bashed the "new" chief see the logic of a harbor patrol now.

Great job by Officer Brooks, Sgt (now LT) Szala and our new Chief.

Our bedroom community has seen violent home invasions, big league drug dealers, and a host of other crimes solved by our fantastic PD. They deserve our support and respect.

Yes I can see how the Harbor Patrol played a major role in this bust. Give me a break, the Harbor Patrol is uneccessary and WILL eventually end up costing the town additional money once the "brotherhood" negotiates special differential pay for the dedicated officers who have to suffer out there in the sun. Once it is established as the new norm then we will also have to pay for additional coverage on the streets when we don't meet our minimum manning requirements there.

As the latest post indicates, Bill Trimble is a supporter of our police department. This quiet, respectable selectman, is a supporter of all town departments. As most townies may agree, the police department is the most visible, seen paroling the town on a (24/7)....(365) calendar year. No such thing as closed for the day, holiday week, or snow days. These exceptional men/women patrol our town, carry a gun, arrest drunk drivers, and other felony “what to be thief's”.
When Dartmouth was facing town fiscal limitation, selectman Bill Trimble indicated that public safety would be level funded.
It appear to me, that some of our selectmen are not heeding the town fiscal warning signs, selectman Trimble is waving the red flag. Dartmouth town meeting has increased school spending, instituted a full time grade (K), re-opened the Cushman school, and spent large sums of money to bring the school up to code, including an elevator. Is it necessary, or nice to have? Can we afford the new program?
DARTMOUTH WILL BE FACING A FISCAL CRISISES IN THE 2012 FISCAL BUDGETS.
This monetary dark cloud is hanging over all cities and towns. No more federal money to carry us over for another year. The well is dry, and the Obarmarites are showing empty pockets, along with the 14.5 trillion dollar debt
Tea party elected congressmen will be holding the line on spending, and the other want to remain congress people have received a wake up call.
How will this effect our town......our town meeting members could always take money from the reserve account, last total was 5.5 million. Remember.... stupid is, what stupid does.
I just wish to see Bill Trimble serve another term.

Wasn't that drug dealer in Mississipi? I like our new police chief but let's not get too carried away with the accolades.

Wasn't that drug dealer in Mississippi?

Ummmm No! He was right here in Dartmouth heading a drug ring bringing millions of dollars of illegal drugs into the country.

HIS boat was intercepted in the Gulf but he was here as was his HOME.

To the poster who thinks a harbor patrol isn't necessary.. besides the obvious drug problem in and around our harbor and New Bedford Harbor there are a multitude of things the Harbor Patrol can and will accomplish.

One man (our harbormaster) cannot enforce all the laws a police officer is capable of performing. That is why the VAST majority of costal communities have a police harbor patrol.

Just wait until the train comes to town, we are going to need a PD of over 100 people to deal with all the crime.

The captain of the vessel and the target of a federal probe is 58-year-old James Ormonde Staveley-O'Carroll of 196 Division Road, DARTMOUTH MA.

The drug bust was in Mississippi BUT the drug dealer lives in Dartmouth and has a mooring in the harbor. He could very well have brought drugs to "our" town had he not been caught in Mississippi.

Besides the Harbormaster does not carry a gun or handcuffs, how is he going to arrest somebody?
