I dropped off my nomination papers for re-election to the Select Board this morning at the Town Clerk's office. Last Friday was the deadline for taking out nomination papers. The Clerk informed me that only Robert Gauvin had taken out papers for the race. Mr. Gauvin had called me last week and said he would not be returning his papers if I was going to run. I assured him that I was. So it seems that I will not have an opponent on the ballot. Of course, there could be a write in campaign.
I intend to campaign for the office despite the lack of a declared opponent at this time. I will be putting out signs and attending any candidate functions to which I am invited.
Not having an opponent is a change in the recent history of Select Board races. Only Mr. Michaud has been returned to office among our recent Select Board incumbents and he ran in a tightly contested race.
I want to thank those rvoters who signed my nomination papers and the residents of the town for supporting me. I'll be blogging about issues and projects I would like to get accomplished during the next few years. Stay tuned.

Congratulation, you are the first Dartmouth selectman to run unopposed in many years. This is a true sign that you represent truth, honesty, justices, and the American way. You are not a loud mouth, who pretends to be a know it all, who enjoys hearing himself talk. Thank you for wanting to serve for another three year term.
With you as our selectmen, and with the help of other member, past and present, Dartmouth is now going in the right direction. Your election to the select board, made it happen. You are part of appointing a new executive administrative officer, Dartmouth police chief.

Will be glad to have you on board again. In my opinion you are the most genuine and honest SB member without any special agenda. You have my vote. Thanks for representing the tax payer.
I think Dartmouth has made some important changes and is headed in the right direction. We still have work to do! Thank you for your dedication and service to the town! I enjoy watching the meetings now. I like the way you let people speak and you do not take up a lot of time blowing hot air yourself. Thank you.

Congratulations.......unless a write in candidate appears, you will continue to serve on the select board. During the past three years, you have demonstrated excellent leadership, without expressing anger or making disrespectful remarks toward the public, even to those who have disagreed with you.
I hope you will continue to honor your sense of fairness, as it relates to doing what is right, and not political. Many people pretend to be righteous, and posses knowledge, but are full of trickery.
I think back to a few years ago when the SB meetings were an embarrassment to the town. The heavy handedness of a certain person, the rudeness of another and the insolence of a third person made the meetings a joke. The you had "Blinking" and "Nod" on the perimeter voting for everything that an aforementioned certain verbose individual pushed onto the taxpayers. The SB was a cruel joke. Now, we have civil and mostly intelligent discussion of issues with subsequent favorable resolution. You have been a key part of this change for the better. I believe you would have won a contested election easily. Certainly if that verbose individual ran again.
I like Bill too- but forgive me for challenging the saying Bill would win a contested election easily. That is unknown.
In fact, this blog infrequently represents the will of the voters. Let's review. In 2010, Michaud, favored here, beat BOB MILLER, need I say more, by 100 votes. Hardly a smashing reelection endorsement given his opponent.
McDonald defeated this blog's favorite, Frank Gracie, who lost for a second consecutive year.
Two years ago, Ms. Stone crushed another favorite, Diane Gilbert, by almost 1000 votes (20%).
I think if anything is clear it would be this. This blog does not represent the Dartmouth voter.
Or it may represent the nature of the job. It is truly thankless but now that the old guard has for the most part moved on we can continue with good government. But Mr. Trimble beware of the "Ides of Gagne"
He hasn't gone away and will undoubtedly apply when Mr. Cressman eventually leaves.
Bill, I love the blog! I don't take anything seriously and I'm sure there have been many elections that have gone 'the other way' from what the bloggers think. I just know that you are not a politician and you are a refreshing change from some of the others. Keep up the good work! We agree most of the time and I'm glad you are on the board.
