Town cars questioned

I had an email about the vehicles on the spring Town Meeting warrant for Town Hall use. The question that asked was, "Who are they for?"
The replacement vehicles on the warrant for Town Hall are 2 Ford Focus' (28MPG) and a Ford Escape (26MPG) that will be used to replace old Crown Victorias (14MPG) that were passed down from the police department and an Explorer (14MPG). The Focus has better gas mileage and the old cars are worn out and costly to maintain. These cars are going to be used by the building department inspectors (now driving a 1994 Crown Vic former police car)...

...the health inspectors, and the Conservation agent (Escape replacing an Explorer). The Explorer will be passed down to the Harbormaster. Also please note that these requests are being funded from the tax levy which I think is the proper way to go about it, rather than borrowing for these relatively short lived assets
They are not for the top administrators.

Well those changes seem to make sense and will be a small savings. Just a thought, instead of buying Crown Victoria's for the police is there a different model (or make) that could also save us gas and money?

How about some of those other police vehicles that are in the lot.Do we need all of those SUV's ? I know they were free, but there is maintainence costs.

Just my 2 cents

why are we paying for them to drive? isnt it cheaper for us if we just pay mileage? how about GPS installed so we can track them every minute to make sure when their working their actually working instead of going home for lunch?

the school dept uses their own cars why cant everyone? why do we have to provide vehicles? if their costly to maintain get rid of em!

Are these vehicles left at the town hall, and only taken out on the road during the work day? If these employees use their own cars would they need more insurance?

Why are we looking only at Ford? Whata bout Toyota, Honda, Subaru? Are Ford the best in terms of maintenance issues? Or do we have a bosom pal at Ford car lot?

Bill how about saving the town some money in the town counsel lawyer category? What did this cost for FY08? Almost $300,000?

If you know where I can find photos of women's lacrosse, let me know the URL. I have not found a website, like Lax.com for men's lacrosse, that has the pictures.

Maybe the schools have some or someone will photograph the girls practicing, like the newspapers may have link to sports photos?
