Saul Raposo had a factually incorrect letter in the Chronicle this week that I will briefly correct. Unfortunately, I can not find a link to the letter on the Standard Times website. If you find one, please leave the URL in comments.
First, the Select Board voted in open session on December 10, 2008 to ask the Finance Committee for a Reserve Fund transfer. Mr. Raposo stated that this discussion and vote did not take place.
The discussions on filing a lawsuit were in Executive Session and I believe properly so. This discussion would be exempted from a public meeting under the provision for discussion of litigation. Here is a link to a guideline for the Open Meeting law The minutes of the meetings where this litigation was discussed...
... will be made public when the issue involved(i.e.the lawsuit) is settled. The Select Board is now committed to prompt review and release of executive session minutes. There have not been executive minutes released for over three years before my election. That should not be allowed again. Minutes should be approved promptly and released expeditiously. Mr. Iacaponi has already taken steps to ensure that this will occur.
Finally, the Select Board voted on Feb 28th in open session to appoint Ed Iacaponi as interim Executive Administrator. Earlier, Joe Michaud and Diane Gilbert had met with Mr. Iacaponi to ask if he would accept the position. Mr. Raposo stated that the discussion and vote did not take place. He also said that two members had appointed Mr. Iacaponi which is not only untrue, but actually impossible. It takes three members of the Select Board to act on anything.
Those are the facts in these matters and you can look them up at the links given. I also will point out that Mr. Raposo led an effort to get a recall provision inserted into the Town Charter in order to remove members who voted not to renew Mr. Gagne's contract. That effort failed at a Special town Meeting in part, I believe, because the recall provision was so poorly written.

Thanks for clearing up the misinformation. Saul Raposo has proven time and again that he has no credibility whatsoever.
Bill you need to start using this stuff, Ginkgo biloba, it will help you with your memory loss.
Thank you for clearing up the public record.
Saul Raposo's letter to the editor in the Chronicle was totally irresponsible on his part. I also think the Chronicle should have known better than to print it. They should now print a PROMINENTLY arranged article explaining the REAL TRUTH to their readers.
To last poster...not really as irresponsible as Diane Gilbert's wild allegations about Lara Stone and John George that she went to the paper with...'connecting the dots" because John George would not let her put a sign up. That women has no credibility. And mean...destroying Kevin Lee's reputation with an equally baseless allegation. This women is scary.
Anyone with half a brain can see that George is working to elect $tone so your lie meme is false. Kevin Lee went to the papers with his story, not anyone else. Won't help him, good luck in your future endeavors.
I agree with 5:59. Gilbert is mean-spirited. Her behavior toward Kevin Lee was just the latest of many such outbursts by her. The woman has a mean streak! Stop trying to deny it.
Is Saul Raposo going to apologize? I certainly think he should. He attacked the integrity of the Select Board in an open letter to the public. His letter is a clear example of slander. It was full of malicious, false, and defamatory statements. He should be ashamed.
Kevin Lee had a picture of a naked child on the WORLD WIDE WEB and linked it to our town website. Poor judgment at the least. He has instructions on his site to his clients on how to write letters for him to keep his job. That is unethical and poor judgment. Ask any social worker or mental health counselor for their opinion if it's appropriate to ask your clients to intervene with your employer. It's not! If he worked for anyone else, they would've shown him the door the day they found out.
Bill, I think you should sue Raposo for slander. This guy is off the wall. He needs to realize that there can be consequences to his irresponsible actions. His divisive, immoral actions are the whole problem with this town.
Anyone who knows Kevin Lee knows he would NEVER ask his clients to write a letter for him. They all would gladly do it because they all know what kind of person he is and WANT to help him. He is very important to alot of kids(some now adults)and they don't want to see him lose his job.
go here and find out
http://www.dartmouthyouth.com/dycCrisisFunding-Youth.htm if he would
It's interesting to see how these bloggers spin situations, depending on the candidates. Saul Raposo clearly stated something false and was wrong in doing so. The bloggers scream "Sue him" "It's slander". But Gilbert did the same thing when she created the rumor about Stone making back-room deals, yet bloggers here downplay it and make excuses for her. Regardless of your voting preference, bloggers should at least admit when a candidate or resident is wrong and be fair across the board.
Anon 9:53pm
Did you ever think he put them on the website because his clients kept asking him and he did it to make it easier and to save paper. If you READ the letter it says you are recieving it because you ASKED how you can help! So again they aren't being asked to help him they WANT to help him.
Diane Gilbert did not start any rumor. The ST printed an article based on nothing more then a person’s personal opinion. No facts were checked and it was put on the front page. Diane Gilbert was not smart to have spoken to a reporter like that, but for them to have actually printed it is why they are not a respected paper. This is exactly like when the ST printed the story about the UMass student who claimed Homeland Security visited him after he supposedly took a copy of Mao's "Red Book" from the UMass library. They received no confirmation from anyone that this had actually happened, but were happy to smear people’s names in their article.
9:53 pm - The Youth Commission publicly stated in the ST, it was the decision of the Commisssion to encourage advocacy on the website, not Kevin Lee.
8:00 am - Oh yes, compulsive spinners since day one - even before the blog evident by all CFRG propoganda. Precisely why, nothing can be regarded as credible. Spin, spin, and more spin.
What Slanderin' Saul did was far worse than anything I've seen from Gilbert. Gilbert was giving an opinion on the unfolding campaign. What Slanderin' Saul did was lie about actions by the select board that were documented clearly to the contrary of his false claims. Apologize now, Saul. No more cowardly excuses.
I think most people just ignore Saul Raposo anyway.
I know I don't pay any attention to him after he crazy recall fiasco!
The problem is that he asked the newspaper to print a letter that was slanderous. Many people may not follow town politics close enough to know that he has no credibility. They may even believe his outrageous lies. Saul Raposo needs to publicly apologize for that letter. The question is, Is he man enough to do it?
Diane Gilbert needs to apologize to Lara Stone, John George and Bob Miller for the slander that she called the paper about. This women should be sued. I wish someone would sue her for her lies. I also wish Kevin Lee would sue her for trying to destroy him personally. All it would have taken was a telephone call to Mr. Lee if there was any concern. A true leader would have spoken to the employee first. Diane Gilbert did not even pick up the phone to call Kevin Lee before jumping on her high horse and going to the paper. Let's ask ourselves why she did this. Because she in fact wanted to destroy Kevin Lee because he was such a vocal advocate for MIchael Gagne. Is not this reminscent of the conduct of the many selectboard leaders that came before her that she criticized. This is not a leader, but a power monger. She is a scary incarnation of everything she claims to have fought against. This women needs some clinical help. I bet Kevin Lee could help her and probably would provide the service for free as he is such a class act.
The negative stone campaign continues. Vote for Gilbert. In the meantime, this post is about Saul Raposo's slanderous letter to the editor. It would not surprise me to find out that it is Saul himself trying to deflect the attention away from his divisive, malicious and slanderous letter by changing the subject of the thread with more lies about Gilbert. Kevin Lee is the one who went to the press, not Gilbert. So Saul, are you man enough to apologize or are you too much of a coward?
Oh give me a break! Diane Gilbert was right! Miller has been going around town asking people to put Stone signs up. George has his farm loaded with Stone & Carney signs. Status quo...
He and Miller think they can continue to run the town from home!
Diane shouldn't have had the piece in the paper, but I think she was right on! I will vote for Diane Gilbert!
I am not Saul and Saul is not on the a public figure like Diane Gilbert is and is not running for office. For our elected official to run to the newspaper with such a pile of trash, that is slander and unbecoming of anyone who is serving as a leader of our community. This women is out of control.
Curt Brown confirmed today in his blog that it was indeed Diane Gilbert who emailed the ST about Kevin Lee.
Diane was NOT the one who contacted the Standard Times about Kevin Lee. Below is Curt Brown's post confirming that.
8:47 AM - CurtBrown — Dear "Will not wast vote on Diane Gilbert again"...I have allowed your post with reservations. I want to correct something you have written here. I do this with the hope that others will read it and not make the same mistake. Ms. Gilbert DID NOT "go to the newspaper" as you have written. She DID NOT call me. I called her. My call to her, though, was based on emails she had sent about the situation, which indicated she had knowledge and concerns. Please understand I point this out not to embarrass, but to correct the official record. I have denied several posts from others who have incorrectly mentioned that Ms. Gilbert called me. Ms. Gilbert is a public official and she is fair game for criticism. However, she should not be criticized unfairly. Thanks.
Curt brown has also verified that Gilbert did NOT send himan e-mail regarding the Kevin Lee situation. This is his post
11:37 AM - CurtBrown — The emails were sent to third parties.
Talk about misinformation. Someone reads a post from Curt Brown and that someone then posts the exact opposite of what Mr. Brown said. Amazing!
Curt Brown never confirmed that Diane Gilbert sent the E-mails to the ST, he just said they were based on emails sent, and we already knew there were emails sent by Diane to others, anyone who received these emails could have fowarded them to the ST, maybe even by a person trying to discredit Ms. Gilbert.
12:30: Curt was asked to clarify his statement as it was unclear. What is clear is that the Kevin Lee story was "based on emails she had sent about the situation". She, being Diane Gilbert. Clears things up for a lot of people especially those implicating Kevin Lee.
Emails sent to who and about what? You reached a conclusion without any facts. Did you get an email? What did this email say?
Who forwarded the e-mail to Curt Brown? That is the big question. All we know is that it was not Gilbert so she is the only one in the clear on this issue which I'm sure is much to the dismay of Stone's attack crew.
I wouldn't say she is completly in the clear, the story is based on emails she sent. Just because she didn't send them to Curt Brown doesn't mean she didn't start this and handled it the right way. Was one of those emails to Kevin Lee to address her concerns. Seems to me she started the whole mess with emails to others. It just really could have been handled better.
Wow, now you guys are regurgitating all of Diane's past "sins." Too funny.
3:01 p.m. - you, especially, are out to lunch!
Kevin Lee himself contacted Curt Brown. He was looking for the attention to save his job.
More conjecture from the connect-the-dots crystal ball Perhaps you could request Curt to clarify since he seems concerned about setting the record straight. I'm sure you wouldn't want to misrepresent another.
Back to the original post. Has Saul apologized for his misinforming, malicious, and slanderous letter to the editor. He certainly has been warned about the impending lawsuit if he doesn't. You're awful quiet Mr. Raposo but then again, that's a good thing.
Will the lawsuit against Saul be filed before or after suits are filed against Selectperson Gilbert for the multiple misrepresentations that she has made in the media?
Which multiple misrepresentations are you referring to?
Saul doesn't have much time left to make his public apology. Tictock, tictock. I hope he has a lot of money saved up for defense lawyers if he doesn't.
The complaint against Raposo has been drafted and should be filed by the end of the week. Mr. Raposo will be served his summons within two weeks after the complaint is filed. Finally we have something to make this angry, unstable, slanderer think twice before he acts.
Assuming that Saul Raposo wrote a “factually incorrect letter,” as stated by Bill Trimble, how does this rise to the level of slander? It seems that Mr. Trimble countered the questionable statements rather effectively with facts of his own.
Questions:
1) What is the specific nature of the alleged slander?
2) Who was harmed by Raposo‘s statements?
3) What is the nature of the damages incurred by these statements?
3) What is the purpose of the lawsuit, i.e., money? Apology? Other?
4) Who is filing the lawsuit?
"angry, unstable, slanderer" - lucky Diane isn't up against such vindictiveness. Maybe she should be.
tick tock, tick tock.... We're waiting for your public retraction Mr Raposo. Do you have a lawyer yet?
