Now you're talking! These guys are great.

We have a gem of our own in this town. The high school Pops concert was held on Friday night featuring all sections of the music program, Concert band, Orchestra, Chorus,Show band, Persussion ensemble and Chamber orchesta. They all sounded great, especially the Show band. They performed four pieces, Lady Bird, Juan of these days, Dance to the Music and In the Mood.
We have a very talented group of instructors and students. DCTV recorded the program, please take a look. Although it would have been better if members from the select board were there in person.

What was missing from the night was members of the Select board showing their support for these kids who work tirelessly at their craft and so proudly represent their town. It is a shame there is such in fighting in this town that we can not appreciate one of the best assets we have.

On a similar note, Our High School Marching band one their first National Championship this past fall. National Championship! Did anyone from the town Administration recognize this feat? No. At the very least, the Select board should have been issued a Citation from the town of Dartmouth. These kids deserve our recogntion. Last year they won the Northern States championship which is a huge accomplishment in itself and they received a citation from the select board. As minor as it may seem these kids treated that citation with respect and it said to them their town respects and appreciates them.

This is a sad commentary on the new direction this town has apparently taken.

Thanks Bill for providing a forum for disgruntled citizens to vent.

PS. Do yourself a favor and come see one of the indoor percussion's performances over the next few weeks. You won't be sorry. This is another group who won the World Championships in Dayton,Ohio last year and will be defending their title agan this year. If you do attend a performance, keep in mind that all of the props, costumes and labor to put this show together is all volunteer time and supported by the Dartmouth School Music Association.

I think Music is one area that can't be politicized.

I tried. I contacted Mike Gagne after the Band won the world championships an even sent him the information required. I proposed a proclamation honoring the band day in Dartmouth but for some reason nothing ever came of it.

Saw the percussion performance at the high school last year - the performance that ultimately won them the national award. It was awesome and if we're lucky they'll put on a similar show this year!

I've watched Select Board meetings for years and sadly the band is never there. What a sad commentary on the youth of today.

The youth of today or the adults of today?

Thanks Bill!

no day for the band. the SB would rather have eliminated the world champion band in favor of curriculum. the world championship makes it alot harder than if the band was just average.

Ethics, and now Open Meeting issues, what a way to start a political career.

Saul, you are a dope. Do you ever research anything before you decide to write a letter in the paper? NOT. Look on the town website to see that all three issues were in fact voted on in open meetings. Try to keep up.

The SB of 2006 left this town with a mess! Open mtg violations are only one of the many mistakes they made. Thanks to Diane Gilbert for bringing open honest government to Dartmouth!
