Refer to this Curt Brown blog post listing Town Meeting vacancies by precinct. It is too late to get on the ballot but a write in campaign of your friends and family is usually enough to get elected. Of course, you have to attend the Town Meeting too. Give it some thought, Town Meeting is June 2nd
See you there!

Because of the Select Board campaigns, it will probably be difficult to get anyone excited about Town Meeting, but I'll try. I posted the following on Curt Brown's blog in response to the information he posted about all of the vacancies for Town Meeting member:
In an ideal world, Town Meeting should have 390 members (39 members per precinct, with 13 members per precinct elected each year). According to the breakdown which Curt Brown got from the Town Clerk, only three of the ten precincts in our Town (precincts 5, 9 and 10) have a full complement of members. Overall, 58 of 390 seats (14.9%) are open. In precinct 3, the precinct which encompasses UMass Dartmouth, 22 of the 39 seats (56.3%) are open. What can we do to increase these numbers?
This is a serious question which I hope can generate serious discussion and maybe a few good ideas. Thank you.
How about a redistricting plan? We could carve a canal up from where the Apponagansett River meets Elm ST across just south of Rockland to south of William over to Anthony"s Beach. If we dig it deep enough, Maybe Padanaram will float out to the Vineyard to be annexed on to Chilmark. This will leave the good people of Bliss Corner some waterfront property and rid the town of 99% of override divisiveness.
Ahh Steve, serious discussion on anonymous blogs? Good luck. As far as the canal comments all I can say is envy is a terrible thing.
Envy? Hardly. What you don't understand is that Padanaram does not hold all the wealth in this town. It just thinks it does. It does however hold most of the arrogance and "me,me,me" attitude. I would think the villagers would be very happy to be a town within itself. That way you can pay more taxes and get all the services you want and the best schools. It would benefit everyone for Padanaram to become its own town.
Oh what fun. A comment about digging atrench to provide Bliss Corner waterfront property is taken as a sign intelligence and I'm sure the author feels he is very clever and to make it evenmore fun someone that refutes such absurd commentary is labled as a 'me me me' individual. How rich. Oh and I dont mean in a monetary sense for those who may mis-construe my meaning.
The only poblem sith living in Padanaram and the reason I would never consider it is that one would actually have to drive thru Bliss Corner too often to get anywhere. No I'll take my acreage on the Slocum thank you.
You don't find digging canals humorous but making digs at Bliss Corner is just oky doky. I'm glad that poster said that Padanaram has only "most" of the arrogance in town. I see some of it is down by the river.
Yes indeed aside from the mosquitoes in the summer, life on the Slocum is wonderful. No neighbors within earshot and bucilic, winding roads to get in and out. Fly fishing in the summer, cross country sking till your legs are numb in the winter and bird watching all year 'round. Arrogance? No. I made my bed and I like it. Everyone has the same choices in life and I made mine am am happy with them.
