There was some discussion at this evening's Select Board meeting regarding information on wind turbine bylaws and the steps taken so far to site wind turbines on town land. The information has been posted to the town website here. The link is on the home page of the town website under the title, Alternative Energy Information.
Hat tip to Mike Courville for getting it posted.

The two women tonight who were so concerned about the town wind turbines at the SB meeting seemed insincere to me. What could be their ulterior motive? If anyone has ever sounded like a NIMBY, it was these two ladies. They are definitely trying to undo all the hard work that went into the alternative energy by-law. This by-law already borders on being a poison pill and these women don't think it is sufficient? There is something fishy going on here. I am against Arabian oil dependency and I have no love for Peabody coal trains. They hauled away my hometown in West Virginia.
I watched the SB mtg. last night. I was surprised to hear the women say they knew nothing about the wind project. They haven't been paying attention. The town has not been hiding anything from the residents. Like Nat Dias said, the town has been working on this for 7 years! There have been many mtgs. where the wind project has been the focus.
I want clean energy! The town seems to be doing everything right. I don't understand what the problem is...if concerns come up along the way, they will be addressed.
Here we finally have an issue that could be the greatest "uniter" of different political factions in town and these two women want to throw a monkey wrench into it. This is something that even if only briefly, we could all stand behind as a community and be proud of. We would be the first to do it in Bristol County.
It has been openly discussed at TM as well, by Ron Dipippo and others.
I can't think of one issue in town that has been more thoroughly and openly discussed for years than this wind turbine project.
A short drive into Portsmouth RI for anyone who has questions is a good idea. I personally know the people of Ryan Electric from Warwick RI that installed the Portsmouth High school turbine and the other turbine at Portsmouth Abbey. I was at the base of these machines and I was at awe at how quietly the worked. they are actually quieter than a oscillating fan you have in your homes.---Ray Medeiros, Jr
There is no mention in the news about the 100 foot wind turbine at route 195 and rte 240 in Fairhaven . This turbine was one that was may have installed by a former state rep from our area.
The back of the turbine apers to be missing. This happened about a week ago. Did it get hit by lightning, wind damage? This turbine was paid for with renewable energy money.
The plan for the two wind turbine sounds good. If the voters want the turbine good. Lets hope the town knows the economic downside of these turbines. The maintenance cost of the turbines, the replacement of the narcel (turbine engine) at the end of ten years and maintenance plans. Does the plan make economic sense?
The Wind Energy Siting Reform Act is in the legislature right now. This act as it written takes control from cities and towns of the Commonwealth. This act could place a commercial wind turbine in any state owned land, former designated open space, town owned land, wetlands and/or any place in Dartmouth the state or a commercial wind turbine contractor wants to place one under the current by-laws or special permits in Dartmouth.
Be careful for what you wish for!
