Urge our new Senator to pass the public option

Blue Mass Group has this post about an effort underway to pass the public option via a budget process called reconciliation. Most other members of the Massachusetts congressional delegation have indicated their support for this effort. Let us get our new Senator, Scott Brown, to support it too.
I could not find an email for Senator Brown at the Senate website but his office phone number is 202-224-4543. If you call outside of office hours, you can leave a message. You can fax his office at 202-228-2646.

Be heard! Act now!

Why would I do this? I voted for Brown because he likely will NOT support a public option. Otherwise I would have voted for Coakley. Time to move on.

Now that's a plan for success. Have Brown abandon the people that put him into office to vote like the person he defeated.

I'll call Scott Brown's office and ask him to vote for a public option. He is suppose to work for all the people in MA. There are many who want health care with a public option. Maybe our elected officials could try coming together for the good of the people?? What an idea!

Scott Brown already voted with Republican party line...what a shock. He voted against Labor Relation board nominee....because he is pro labor...what a shocker!!!

Thank you Massachusetts!

Not so fast, Move On. One reason I voted for Brown was because the dems failed us on healthcare. If they couldn't get it done with control of both branches then we might as well get someone in there who is at least for less spending on things like bailing out General Motors. The only healthcare reform we see will mirror what was done in our state of MA, which was a complete failure for me. Healthcare was the dems priority but when it comes down to it, the only people that their reforms will benefit are insurance and pharma companies and probably illegal aliens.

He does serve us ALL and the majority of us elected him because of his stance on health care!!!!!

Bill if they pass this bill in such a manner they are gonna lose more than control of congress next session but maybe MOST of their seats.

The Republicans will not support any healthcare because they are only concerned about the next election and not allowing the Dems to get credit for change or progress. Scott Brown will likely have his hands tied, and do what the party tells him.

As usual, we the citizens are the losers. Nothing ever gets done, but we keep paying these people to serve us!

Scott Brown's hands cannot be tied. He can vote anyway he wants and you know it.

I will certainly urge our new senator to veto any public option.

Asking Scott Brown to vote in favor of the public option doesn't make sense.

Massachusetts already has a public option. Why would he want the citizens of Mass to shell out even more money so that illegals in California can get liver transplants?

Liberals always have the best ideas. The problem is that they can never tell you how to implement them.

the problem with conservatives are they have had NO IDEAS, but say no to other ideas.

Anonymous said...

Conservatives absolutely have ideas - one of the big ones revolves around limiting big government and letting individuals make decisions effecting their own lives and the opportunity to make as much or as little of themselves as possible. How's that for an idea?

Anonymous said...

Against big Government...NAME ONE republican president since 1950 that has done that

We already have universal healthcare. Anyone who goes to the hospital receives care. The question is whether or not we can do it more efficiently.

Scott Brown will likely have his hands tied, and do what the party tells him.

How does that CROW taste? Today OUR Senator Brown and four other Republicans broke with GOP leaders to advance the jobs bill.

I don't expect you to acknowledge OUR Senator, but he clearly is an independant voice.

Healthcare insurance companies make a mere 3.4 percent profit. The problem is TORT reform not gutting the BEST healthcare system in the world.

Employers like the town, require an employee to go to the DR if they are out of work for 5 days in a year. This is part of the reason premiums are so high,

Anonymous said...

That is one of the main reasons healthcare is so expensive.

When ER patients go to the emergency room ...the taxpayer foots the bill through higher premiums

Bill Trimble said...

Tort reform is not the answer. It is not even a very large cost. 34 states have already adopted some kind of medical tort reform without any effect on medical costs.
There would be no uninsured expense at emergency rooms if everyone had health insurance. That is one of the ways that health care reform cuts costs. People can go to a doctor's office for appropriate treatment, maybe even preventative care, without using the most expensive facilities like emergency rooms.
The rapid rise of costs in our system is bankrupting the country. I wrote about that in this post. To me that is one of the main reasons that health care reform is an imperative. The Republicans have poisoned the well with this ridiculous talk about death panels and socialized medicine. The main reason to do this is to get control of the costs and not run our country into the ground. The US pays nearly twice as much per capita for health insurance than any other nation but our health outcomes are not twice as good. In fact by many measures, they are worse than other nations.
Per capita spending:
United States: $7290
France: $3601
United Kingdom: $2992
Italy: $2686
My question is what do insurance companies bring to the table? As I see it they skim off profit and have an incentive not to provide care. The insurance companies tell your doctor what procedures they will cover. Medicare, on the other hand, leaves those decisions to you and your doctor.

Tort reform is simply a way for big business to limit the little guy from getting a fair day in court.

They have all the big gun lawyers and still they want to stop the average Joe from asking a jury to give a fair judgement.

The US constitution says citizens have a right to "redress of their grievances". Tort reform is simply a restriction of that constitutional right.

What do insurance companies bring to the table?
Good insurance companies like the one I have has provided medical coverage for me and my family for over twenty years. Not one request has been denied and they continue to pay significant costs for a chronic illness for my spouse. They have provided evrything I have asked of them. One many occassions, the government has not.

Bill Trimble said...

And the insurance company has done such a great job while only charging you three times more than the average Canadian spends on health care. Twice as much as the average Frenchman. How do they do it?

Anonymous said...

Bill, if I am happy with the services I am receiving why should I care what a Frenchman or a Canadian do or do not get? Why should you care what I pay for coverage that satisfies my needs? I pay for a product and am content with what I receive back. When I am no longer content I will take my business elsewhere it's that simple.

69,971 average salary in Canda

71,812 US

42,647 United Kingdom

Any question on why we pay more?

Bill Trimble said...

Please read this post about health care costs bankrupting our citizens, companies and country. That is why you should care about health care reform.
Good for you that you are satisfied with your coverage. Many millions have no insurance or are under insured. Many cannot get insurance at any cost due to pre-existing conditions. You are content with that, I am not.
I don't know where the commenter got his salary numbers but they are wildly off. Check here http://www.worldsalaries.org/
But nonetheless, the earnings are not 1/2 or 1/3 of ours. We spend twice as much per capita than France. Many believe they have the finest health care system in the world. Now you will say, people come here for treatment. True, people who can pay come here for good treatment. Tens of millions who live here do not get good treatment. The French and many others are better because everyone gets good treatment.
So there are two points to my argument, first, the current system will bankrupt the country and second, I believe the richest country in the world has a moral obligation to care for the sick among their citizens.

Bill, reform that limited itself to the pre-existing conditions issue and several other, targeted reforms would have my full support. This is not what we are being force fed as 'reform'. Giveaways to states to buy their votes, backroom deals with unions to exepmt them from various elements of the 'reform' bill, that and over 2,000 pages that most of our elected representatives have never even bothered to read is the cru of my object to this 'reform'
So let us not draw a hard line and say those that do not support this package only care about themselms. It is that sort of thinkning that has put Obama and his associates in the position they are in. One would have thought they had learned from their mistakes, but I guess one would be wrong.
