I didn't think that the traffic light at the 195 off ramp was going to help much with traffic but it has. Along with the other changes made, such as providing two lanes southbound from the off ramp and two north bound to the on ramp for 195, I found the gridlock was much reduced this holiday season. Traffic on Faunce Corners Rd AND on rt 6 from Cross Rd to Slocum Rd is becoming hideous! The cause is te "Big Box" Stores, who were given TIFFS and perhaps other incentives to come there, on the bais that they would bring jobs into the community. Were the number of jobs stated? Were decent wages and fringes detailed? Is anyone in Dartmouth Town Goverment detailed to audit that these promises that resulted in tax abatement are being kept? And if not being met, added taxes should be levied on such businesses until they comply.
I walked into one "BB" which has created traffic jams at Cross Rd intersection, and it had no one on the floor to assist prospective customers to find items. They had telephones to call for help. I tried one and got to speak to a Taliban in Afghanistan, who vowed a Jihad on me because I called him on his Holy Day of Rest. I recommend that in the future, if a store closes because of mismanagement, that the land be offered to The Dartmouth Conservancy for a dollar an acre, and turned into pasture, and we will gradualy alleviate the traffic jams, become more green, and do our bit to fight global warming and Opec Oil-napping.
The problem could be mitigated if the north bound traffic coming from old westport road had a green light before the south bound traffic coming from faunce corener road.
