State to open parole center on State Road

Curt Brown has a post on his blog (link here) about a new parolee center to be opened on State Road in Dartmouth. Some comments there seem to think this is a bad deal. What do you think?

The parolee center, while it will not include violent offense parolees, will likely be resisted by neighbors. I can't imagine the Lincoln Park developers are too jazzed about the prospect. It won't do much for the real estate value to have a parolee center so close to a housing development. Will the state pony up enough resources to enforce proper security in the building? Does the center include drug counseling, and if so, does it include methadone distribution? These kind of activities increase exponentially the risk for crime in the area. I doubt the state will reimburse the localities for any required increase in police force.

I think a better spot would be near the Bristol County House of Corrections on Faunce Corner Road. We need more information about this. Is this already a done deal?

These Centers do offer substance abuse counseling or refer the individual to counseling, but do not offer methadone or other such services. You should not expect individuals to act up within the vicinity of the Center...why would they when it can impact their parole? This Center is not a problem. Investigate Centers in other communities and the effect on the neighborhood before getting riled up!
