Comparison of US House and Senate Helath care reform bills

David At Blue Mass Group has this post where he weighs the likely options in each body. David has also provided links to a Boston Globe article on the differences between the House and Senate versions of the health care reform bill. The Globe online setup is not very intuitive. You have to click on each heading in the box to see the comparison for that item. David has uploaded the print version after the jump in his post here. It is quite a bit easier ...

... to make comparisons in that version. Passage of a reform bill is an historic event and a first step in getting our nation's health care spending under control. The US spends nearly two times more per capita on health care than any other nation. Health care spending is bankrupting citizens, companies and the nation. Let's hope this reform is a start at reversing that.

There are so many reasons why our health care is in so much trouble. Nobody seems to be willing to take less from the system. Tha administrators(insurance) make too much, the doctors make too much, the pharmacueticals make too much, the hospitals make too much and the patients don't want to give up anything either. Until we have a candid discussion about how much less everyone is willing to take, there's not much hope.
The only piece of the solution that seems to be agreed upon is to make sure that all the healthy people are forced to participate in paying insurance premiums.

And subsidize those who refuse to give up their unhealthy lifestyles.

The sad part about it is that this chain of unhealthy living will continue to be perpetuated as we see more and more children on the verge of obesity, unless someone takes a stand to begin correcting the problem.

The constitution of these United States of America, is the law of the land. Where do you see anything about social programs. It shall provide protection from it's enemies. All the other articles provide RIGHTS of freedom.
If you want a socialistic form of government move away from the U.S.A.
I find that the monies provided to the Dem's for their vote on health care, is larceny from the people. It's unconstitutional.

Mike, I hope you do not cash in your soc sec. check or that you NEVER recieve unemployment benefits or medicare.

These same arguments were brought up during FDR's administration...its an old argument...and it's pathetic

Mike, I hope you do not cash in your soc sec. check or that you NEVER recieve unemployment benefits or medicare.

Not true, Mike paid into social security, Mike's employer paid unemployment taxes and Mike will not be FORCED to use Medicare ( which is federal and state government) The Constitution does not allow Congress to FORCE Citizens to purchase goods/services from PRIVATE companies (healthcare providers)
Constitutional Scholars have said this is unconstitutional yet we sould listen to Anon 8:23???

Mike said..."The constitution of these United States of America, is the law of the land. Where do you see anything about social programs"

I would have to say, Soc Sec,unemployment and medicare are social programs, thus according to mike, they must be unconstututional.

When, we the government (constitution ) force any program, or demand the peoples participation in such programs, other than protecting it's people from invaders, it is a violation of our constitution. Although, I was forced to contribute into social security, No, I do not receive social security. I am not a socialist.
The constitution was written during a time of older understanding, and in accordance with less government control. I do believe that a none governmental committee should be form to reline our present constitution. Our constitution must be tweaked to bring it more in line with the 21st century. Our original authors, would be jumping from the highest buildings, if they could see what the ACLU and other liberal supreme court justice, have done to cause much social misbehavior, as it relates to interpretation of such a simple document.
One amendment I would offer is this; all men/women who become disabled, the result of providing protection for our freedoms as set forth in the constitution, shall be granted all the comforts as needed.

Bill, I only have one question. Will the new national healthcare bill cover "wind turbine syndrome" when Frank1 files his claim?

Anonymous said...

Will Obamacare cover sickness from flicker? I hope so.

Mike,
you are a minority. You say you do not receive soc sec...are you old enough?

Liberal SCJ? MOst of of the nine were appointed by Reagan or Bushes. Get a grip. You know Mike, you can constitutionally renounce your citizenship and become your own nation, like the indians. I will send you the PDF so that you can start your application process

Do you mean like Obama did (if he ever really had it) When he accepted an Indonesian passport??

Anonymous said...

Birther alert!!! LMAO

Birther alert!!! LMAO

Over 1 million dollars spent to keep his birth certificate sealed in a state where rampant fraud was going on when Obama was born.

Not so far fetched afterall.

Anonymous said...

birther...did u know you can access it via internet

Anonymous said...

Quite simply, born here or not at the time he held an Indonesian passport there was no dual citizenship between the USA and Indonesia. The only way to get an Indoesian passport was to RENOUNCE citizenship in the US.

This is not a birther alert, this is a man (now President) who renounced his citizenship and cannot be President.

Mike, you are going to be the downfall of my GOP party.

It's not your party ding dong and never was. The GOP is long gone already, all that remains is the name.

"provide for the general welfare,"

I guess Mike started playing with his toy musket and forgot to read that line.

funny how these right wingers love sending money tanks bombs and young Americans overseas to be destroyed but never want a dime spent in the US.

in fact the constitution says little about a financial system.
it is just as likely a socialist country as a capitalist country as far as it is concerned.

You need to get a grip, no one was talking about Obama being in Indonesia. The topic was Obama receiving an indonesian passport, which he used to travel to Pakistan in 1981. That is not the action of a 10 year old boy, but a man!

Please read the comments before putting your foot in your mouth!!

NOT SO.

The first clause of Article I, Section 8, reads, "The Congress shall have Power to lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States." This clause, called the General Welfare Clause or the Spending Power Clause, does not grant Congress the power to legislate for the general welfare of the country; that is a power reserved to the states through the TENTH AMENDMENT. Rather, it merely allows Congress to spend federal money for the general welfare. The principle underlying this distinction—the limitation of federal power—eventually inspired the only important disagreement over the meaning of the clause.

The sign of a weak argument is not addressing the remarks of the previous poster, instead you go off on a rant of your own. You are weak, and ill equipped to debate with.

if the soc sec act and medicare and medicaid were unconstitutional why haven't they been deemed unconstitutional by our Supreme court? If it is as plain to see as you have pointed out.

10:22 P.M.

As it relates to Blackwater, and a voluntary army. Blackwater is a group of former American military fighters. Former Army/ Marines, who can no longer serve their country as American solders. They are paid a hellofalotmore money employed by Blackwater, than the young men/women who volunteer to become fighters for these so called United States. The voluntary group are called hero's, the non voluntary groups are called COWARDS.
The U.S. Constitution should be amended, to include all men/women between the age of 18 through 25 shall serve two years of military service.
Unless you are a combat veteran, don't lecture me about service to my country, or former solders employed by Blackwater.
The war heroes shall take care of America, while you can wonder why some BAB from Indonesia made an attempt to blow up a Delta airline over Detroit.
You don't have the credentials to wipe their butts.

Anonymous said...

I respect blackwater employees, just not the company. As for the DELTA flight...BLAME the last administration, they released them in 2007 from GITMO. Also blame GOPers for not funding DHS. No chief of the TSA, no funding for bomb detection devices. 108 Republicans voted against that bill. Blame GOPers with their fiscally "responsible selves"

This terrorist ( we're allowed to call him that no?) was given a free ride despite all the red flags he was putting up. Why? Because God forbid we profile someone who walks talks and acts like a terrorist. No, it's more important to pull me aside, a 70 year old grandfather going from Boston to DesMoines for the holidays with a few wrapped christmas presents - each no bigger than a wallet - because thats what they were. Yup we've got our priorities straight. Has nothing to do with money spent or not spent in man cases.

the bomb would have been detected if the devices were in place. but they were not because GOPer like Demint and Boenner opposed funding

Republicans have been against social programs since their beginning.

Mike said...

... and when the democrats gained complete control of the congress was this their primary item? If it was so important to them you would think they would push this through. No, they try to push their socialistic agenda and try to release known terrorists into this country with the same rights all Americans enjoy. Yeah, that's sounds like a democrat. I'll say it again, the Democrats are ruining and weakening this nation. This terrorist attempt was only the beginning. I believe there will be more and only then will everyone turn to the professionals to protect this country. Not the "let's sit down and talk" crowd.

Mike,

Did you like when the Blackwater heroes shot up an intersection in Baghdad killing dozens of unarmed civilians? yeah that was the underlying cause of the 4 Blackwater heroes being burned and hung from a bridge. They are so proud of the Blackwater name that they changed the company name and got a new mascot... a teddy bear.

How many armed conflicts have you been involved in dummy? Wars are not scripted events, mistakes happen on both sides. Had the Iraqis in the car listened to commands they would still be alive today!

Mike is a Marine
The name Mike is being used by two or more posters. During the unpopular war, Mike was a sniper. Along with one other Marine, our planes dropped us behind enemy lines, or inside some unfriendly country, to kill high ranking enemy officer(s)
In my opinion, President Kennedy was killed because he decided not to send additional U.S. Military forces, to fight a ground war, in Southeast Asia. He was right, dead right.
This country should never enter into a war, unless it wants to win. This includes Afghanistan. It's time to pull all our troops out of all countries. We need our military to protect American boards, along with U.S. air planes. It's time to stop sending our money, and factories to foreign countries. It's time for Americans to start working and helping Americans. We need jobs, health care, and most of all a strong economy. We need to fly another flag, under the America flag, a symbol of a fist with one finger sticking up
Go ahead, let me have it. I've been there, I've seen enough, and I'm lucky to be able to say it. Charity begins at home.

CASE DISMISSED!!!!

Unknown said...

I hope the poster of January 3rd is not implying that because they are Iraqi civilians that a private company of trigger happy Americans further the American cause by killing unarmed civilians in their own country! That is the root of racism, believing that one people is more deserving of life and liberty than another. But if you mean those wack jobs from Blackwater with their illegal action brought down the stature of the Americans who hired them....and put at risk even more Americans and US soldiers...... I say to you, Happy New Year

No the case was not dismissed. The elected government of Iraq tried and convicted them. As they should have.

No the case was not dismissed. The elected government of Iraq tried and convicted them. As they should have.

A federal judge has dismissed criminal charges against five guards working for the security firm Blackwater who were accused of killing 17 unarmed Iraqi civilians. The killings strained US-Iraq relations and sparked an outcry over the military's use of private contractors.

n their zeal to bring charges against the defendants … the Government used compelled statements to guide its charging decisions … and ultimately, to obtain the indictment in this case,'' the judge said in a 90-page opinion on Thursday.

CASE DISMISSED..... You are wrong again James.

You have been corrected, or rather been caught LYING several times. Each time you adjust your sails and pretend nothing happened.

why dont we just outsource the entire government, why stop at the military.

Texas can be run by Exxon/Mobil.

And as far as sissy is concerned I have killed innocent civilians on three continents in 7 declared a
