Also 29 minutes prior to all the candidates night show is a new show DCTV did this year where you will hear about the ballot question and directly from the candidates. It is call town election show 2010.

My votes on April 6th are for Michaud/McDonald.. This will keep the balance of power we have witnessed this past year. Notice the change in tone in our town in the last twelve months. Keep it going- Michaud/McDonald...

Anonymous said...

Just curious anyone have any feedback regarding Cressman??

Voting Michaud said...

OMG! Bob Miller said Dartmouth should hire from within, always, after all don't we have smart people in Dartmouth?
O.K. Bob, on the select board for 21 years. Why did we hire Ed Icaponi (not from Dartmouth), Paul Bergman (not from Dartmouth), David Hickox, (not from Dartmouth). Just to name a few!! I think maybe Mr. Miller was having one of his brain freezes....

Anonymous said...

How is McDonald going to keep the balance of power on the Select Board? We already have two pro-school (and I mean, gung-ho pro school) advocates, one, also a very big override ($8.5 million) supporter and probably another override supporter as well seated on the Board.

Why would we need Shawn McDonald? Why? To tip the balance: the majority of the Select Board will favor the schools and forget about the rest of us. That's why?

Anonymous said...

Miller is far from stupid or clueless. He knows precisely what he is doing when he deflects answering questions by shifting the topic to something else, or throwing questions out to the audience. I guess he expects us all to scratch our chins and have a "eureka" moment while we agree with everything he says, because we failed to realize he never answered our questions.

Come on, people. We aren't that stupid.

Anonymous said...

The only override supporter to date is Trimble. He stated that's how to pay for FDK.

I assume Stone/Watson are your school advocates, though that is a baseless assumption seeing that they have voted just as Trimble, Michaud, and Dias have voted. Not sure how you figure the schools have two votes on selectboard.

Anonymous said...

I think that there is more likelihood of their voting for the schools than not. Given an issue that has equal merit, I think they would vote on the school side, even though voting for the residents would make just as much sense and bring about an equally favorable result, with the residents reaping the benefits of whatever the issue was about, rather than the school.

I also have difficulty with Ms. Stone's being so pro-override, even if that's not her immediate position right now. Having both her and Mr. Watson on the Select Board gives the school an advantage, at least in my opinion.

I feel that electing Mr. McDonald is like handing the Select Board to the School Committee.

Anonymous said...

People forget how the schools didn't want McDonald elected to the board when he first ran. People also have forgotten the lack of cooperation he got from the administration during his first term.

I believe McDonald will be fair and open and represent the entire town while serving on the Select Board and not just the schools.

Anonymous said...

Trimble is not an override supporter. He said an override may be one of the ways that we can achieve full-day-K if we have further cuts from the state or cannot find the funds elsewhere. Full-day K is a priority for every board, fin com and select board. Working together we can do it!

Anonymous said...

The vote for FDK was a vote to make it a priority only. This is not a done deal. The school department hasn't even come up with one penny of funding yet. It is still to be decided how much money will come from the school budget and how much will come from the general government budget if this is going to work.

The reason that the school department won't show their hand about how much they will be able to fund from their budget is that they are waiting to see if McDonald wins a seat on the Select Board. If he wins, this will strengthen their hand because they can preach from the SB bully pulpit. Only hitch is, that the FinCom makes the budget, not the SB.

FDK can and should be achievable. Right now, the ball is in the school department's court.

Anonymous said...

I agree with Bill. If the school department thinks that they are not going to have to provide funding for FDK, then they need to ask the voters for an override. Good luck to them with that.

They have stated that they will be providing funding and I think they will. We are all just waiting for them to get their act together.

Voting Joe, Frank, Doug said...

Getting back to candidates night. I think Michaud and Roscoe did the best with Frank Gracie, Shawn McDonald and last Miller. Not sure we should return to Nunes. Monteiro and Roscoe will have my vote. Bob Miller had a hard time getting a coherent sentence out. The year Miller left the board after 20 plus yrs of service, we were facing an $8 million override. Glad that didn't happen. Miller ran this town into the ground,(while the economy was good) with his sweetheart contracts and favors to 'friends'. The time to see true management skills is when things are bad. Anyone can run a town when the economy is good!

Anonymous said...

to 9:16

Well stated. When businesses and homes are being built left and right adding substantial revenues to the town coffers (not to mention increases in state aid), running a balanced budget is one thing. Balancing a budget in times when locally generated revenues are flat (or worse) and state aid is decreasing is quite another. Mr. Michaud has proven he can function well in that environment. My vote will be for Mr. Michaud.

9:01: how long do we have to wait?

Bob Miller made a big issue out of hiring an outside police chief at the candidate's forum. I don't understand why. Gary Soares is a great guy but look at the facts. The top three police administrators all retired within a year. Soares will probably end up with the deputy chief job which would mean that he will have gotten two promotions in a very short period of time. Also, his experience as acting interum chief will only strengthen his resume going forward.
For him to make a permanent jump to chief was probably asking a bit too much. If you ask him, he will tell you that he is very comfortable with the outside hiring of Chief Lee. So what's the problem?

Miller is just trying to make an issue out of nothing. Miller time has come and gone. He loves to say "I've got this and I've got that" but then he never says what it is he's got. We've had enough of blah, blah, blah.

Interesting said...

Doug Roscoe stated that the School Committee has three purposes according to the law. He felt that two of them weren't being done properly. The SC is supposed to hire and fire the Superintedant yet they haven't even been doing performance evaluations. They are supposed to be monitering the budget, yet they only get two pages worth of line items.

McDonald has been on the SC for how long? If he hasn't done the job properly all this time on the SC, why would anyone vote to put him on the Select Board?

My vote goes to Frank Gracie.

Anonymous said...

And my School Committee votes go to Roscoe and Monteiro. Nunes was on for years...

Anonymous said...

Doug Roscoe is wrong when he stated those items. He wants to get elected, so you slam the committee. easy, makes points and gets noticed.

The two page budget is a summary sheet of the budget only and not the budget the committee gets (or anyone else) gets. That budget is over 40 long and Doug knows this.

The committee does get a detailed budget, gets quarterly updates, get informed of any unexpected expenses (usually out of district SPED tuition) and has the final say in closing out the budget.

So, Doug wants to get elected. Make up some things, point them out and let the misinformed rant and rave.

Also, performance evals have been performed on Dr. Russell by this current committee and past. That is a fact and another Doug Roscoe bit of misinformation.

Ask Doug's best buddy, Greg Jones.

Anonymous said...

And mine goes to Shawn McDonald.

Anonymous said...

old mcdonald isn't running for school committee

Anonymous said...

Gee, Doug Roscoe giving out misinformation??? Some things never change. Lie to me once, shame on you. Lie to me twice, shame on me. The problem with giving out misinformation is you lose your credibility and Doug Roscoe lost his during the override campaign many times over. It is for this reason, although he certainly presents himself well, that I could never vote for him.

So today, I look out the window only to see the Millermobile. Three Miller posters taped on a rather dingy looking black truck riding around Dartmouth. I think to myself that it is an obvious metaphor! I wonder where the loudspeakers are? I look to see if Bob is driving. Can't tell as the driver appears partially slumped down in his seat. He looks vaguely familiar. I wonder if the guy was hired from a temp agency? C'mon Bob, is that all you got?

Anonymous said...

Is McDonald taking his ball and going home from the school committee? Now that there are people willing to serve who actually know what is going on and aren't going to just go along with whatever he says, Shawn decides to give the Select Board a try.

Vote for Joe Michaud said...

The more times people see the Candidates Night on DCTV, the more votes Joe Michaud will get. Watch it yourself. Joe is steady, knowledgeable, and in control. Compare that to "Bumbling Bob" Miller.

Anonymous said...

Miller keeps taking Joe's signs. If you are missing your sign call Bob it's probably in the back of his jalopy.

Anonymous said...

Dingy black truck = working folk. The very people that will elect Bob Miller to another term on the BOS.

Laugh at us all you want, we vote and we support Bob.

Anonymous said...

No one is taking Joe's signs. The problem is the Sheriff is going door to door in his county vehicle asking for permission to put signs on people's lawns.

People expect to see a Hodgson for Sheriff sign and when they come outside and see Michaud signs instead the homeowner removes them. This has happened to many people including myself.

Sheriff Hodgson should know better and so should Michaud. The signs are not being stolen if they are put there under false pretense.

Anonymous said...

Ms. Monteiro said nothing of substance. Her remarks and answers to the questions were more relevant to her having a cup of coffee at the kitchen table with another parent.

Anonymous said...

The Sheriff is NOT putting up any signs Joe's or otherwise. Millers only hope is to put up signs and as he puts his up he and the cops are taking Joe's down it is as simple as that. Several people have noted that Joes signs are missing after they put them up. It's the same old sleaze politics from Miller and his crowd but guess what SIGNS DON'T VOTE!

Anonymous said...

Ms Monteiro has two things going for her...She's not john nunes and she's not doug roscoe.

Anonymous said...

And that's about it.

WHAT did she say that was of any substance?

Anonymous said...

to 8:32

Agreed.

It goes unsaid that she is the only candidate in that group that has not committed to an override.

Anonymous said...

No cop is going to risk losing his job over a sign that doesn't vote.

Speaking of signs.... Yesterday at Rt 6 and Faunce Corner Rd there was a group of people with Obama with a Hitler mustache on signs. They were very over the top and calling Obama Hitler, demanding his impeachment. They had bull horns and were making a mess of the intersection.

Right in the middle of their show was a MICHAUD FOR SELECTMAN sign.

I don't think Joe supports those views yet I still found myself disgusted by the two groups being associated.

Let me say... Joe was not there but some of his supporters seem to associate themselves with this group of traveling rabble-rousers.

Anonymous said...

Anonymous, 3:01, I would rather think that the group attached itself to Joe's supporters holding signs and not that Joe's supporters approached them.

If this is the same group that heckled Barney Frank, then I think Dartmouth voters will consider the source. They are also, I believe, out-of-towners that seem to do just that: travel around making trouble and spreading their hate.

If they had any indication that candidate supporters were to be at that intersection, or were just "lucky" to have stumbled on to a grouping of people, then they found the perfect opportunity to disrupt and cause commotion, which is precisely their objective.

Anonymous said...

I cannot believe that Joe would associate with Obama bashing Laroucheites. That goes beyond what is credible. I am sure Joe doesn't agree with President Obama on much but he would not compare him to Hitler and people trying to associate such have no credibility.

Anonymous said...

Joe Michaud had nothing to do with those nut jobs.

Anonymous said...

I would think anyone with an ounce of sense would run like the wind from such a display. Not stay in the immediate area with a sign promoting their candidate.

Someone screwed up big time at the very least!

Anonymous said...

i love blogs..the only place where people can safely give their views without actually committing to anything..there were seven people at meet the candidate's night..like them or hate them, they care enough to actually participate in the process..some of the postings are ugly from "anonymous" with strong opinions..so..get involved or be quiet.

Anonymous said...

Mr. McDonald cannot seem to separate the SB from the SC. He refers constantly to school issues in his campaign. Clearly, a vote for Mr. Gracie is a vote for an independent voice on the SB. Mr. McDonald is simply not qualified.

Anonymous said...

Mr. Gracie gave answers, often with examples. He was well informed on all the issues. It had to be clear he keeps up with the issues and events occurring in Dartmouth that pertain to its government and finances. There would have to be a problem with your perception if you could not recognize that, and some sort of problem if you cannot acknowlege that.

Anonymous said...

to 11:50

Spoken like a true Mr. McDonald supporter. Much like we have seen Mr. McDonald lose his temper at SC meetings a number of times. Mr. Gracie has committed to a professional approach in his campaign. He has consistently maintained that approach. Apparently, that is well beyond your capabilities.

Anonymous said...

I can tell you that anyone that has offered to help Frank has been told that it has to be positive only. He is a gentleman at all times, and while that sometimes doesn't help someone get elected, at the end of the day he is still a gentleman. Last year's campaign should show you that is true. He threw no mud at either of his opponents and has continued with that this year.

Surely you must recognize that some people just want to express their thoughts, and are entitled to do so. That doesn't mean it comes from Mr. Gracie.

Anonymous said...

If someone posts a negative, of course it reflects on the candidate. Whether the candidate knows about it or not, is a different story. However, when a blog run by a supporter of the candidate allows innuendos, lies and character assassination, then that is just dirty politics.

Proud to live in Dartmouth said...

I want to say something positive about a candidate. I heard Joe Michaud on WBSM yesterday. It made me PROUD to live in this town and PROUD to vote for him again on Tuesday. Joe knows what he's talking about.

Re: "innuendos, lies and character assassination"

You are the only one doing that in this thread, right Shawn?

Anonymous said...

Not true 8:28

That Days article saying that there are already two pro school votes on the board and McDonald would make three is a LIE... There is no evidence that Stone, Watson, Trimble, or Michaud would vote any differently on school issues. The only issues that have arisen in the last year was UNIANIMOUS amongst the sitting board members.

So...the allegation that McDonald would tip the board to the schools is impossible given 4 members voted in favor. Now, Ms. Days is entitled to her own opinion. But lets be fair and clear: It is an opinion, not a fact. There is no basis for that assumption.

Anonymous said...

to 4:44

Ms. Stone and Mr. Watson are strong supporters of the school system. I support that in principal. To the limit the town, as a whole, can afford. Yet Ms. Stone was THE primary supporter of the largest override campaign in the history of this town. She was in tears when most of the overrides were defeated. When the economy was headed straight downhill. Convenient memory you have? Just what the average taxpayer would have needed now, a lot more taxes. I know Mr. Watson is of the same ilk. Right now, they know the can't get another override past the SB and on the ballot. They may be flaming liberal moonbats, but they are not stupid. Time will tell the final chapter of this story.
