Here is a quote from the Chronicle by someone who works for the Westport Conservation Commission. "if we [concom] are respectful to people that come in here and we are polite and helpful, we can achieve better compliance than we possibly could by being strict and mean and being perceived as an unfair board. The fact that you [select board] have complaints is very valuable to us, in that if we are not perceived as being open and willing to help people, there's a problem with how we're doing business and we'ld really like to work with you on it."
I could not agree more. Someone needs to explain this to Mike O'Reilly, Dartmouth's concom agent. If he can't understand it, then it should be reflected in his performance evaluations until he either gets it or is terminated.

what a mench!

what's a mench?

What does Mike O'Reilly have to do with the topic of this thread. If you have a personal issue with the ConCom agent take it up with the selct board not thru anonymous postings on a web site.

A "mench" is yiddish for a "a good guy". It also can be used a sarcastic remark, which in the case of the ConCom Whiner, is appropriate.

The "mench" wouldn't be posting here if O'Reilly wasn't a menace. By the way, some interesting executive session minutes just became public info and they won't exactly put ConCom in the best light. I would suggest putting a short leash on the "menace" if you want to avoid more bad publicity.

Coward.

I see, it's the arrogant town official who starts and when the citizen stands up for himself, you call him names. I bet you're the type of guy who thinks rape victims deserve it too. You can't stand on any of the issues regarding ConCom so you resort to name calling. Stay tuned for those ececutive session minutes.

I'm beginning to think the "ConCom Whiner" is the same guy that seems to think water runs uphill.

The ConCom agent has an often unpopular job to do. An anonymous attack on a man who has served the town well for many years via an internet blog is cowardly. How you tie the discussion into rape is beyond me but believe me does little to bolster your credibility regarding your accusations about the ConCom agent.

Served the town well according to who? From what I heard at the SB meeting from Mr. Whitehead, the "whiner" isn't the only one having problems with this man. Mr. Whitehead, who had certainly done his homework, has been trying to work with him for 2yrs. but as he put it, he keeps getting the bum's rush. I thought town officials were supposed to be there to serve the public?

Don't worry, if O'Reilly doesn't change his attitude very soon, there will be someone who steps right up to battle with him publicly. See you on tuesday.

I had a conservation issue once and I didn't feel as though they wanted to educate me about the Wetlands Protection Act at all. It seemed more like they didn't want me to know anything about it because that was their advantage and power over the general public.

To anon 8:52,

Why stick up for O'Reilly? He wanted to pick a fight and it looks like he's getting one. Every schoolyard bully eventually picks on the wrong kid and takes his lumps. We can only hope that he learns from it.

Anonymous and cowardly? you've come to the right place.

Why stick up for O'Reilly? Because it has been my experience that he has done a very good job in a very difficult environment. Any conservation official has to make decisions that invariably make land owners un-happy. He works hard and does not deserve to be trashed by some disgruntled, anonymous blogger.

O'Reilly plays games like telling people everything is fine and then sandbagging them with ridiculous things when they get to the hearing. He is not a man of honor. Trust him as far as you can spit into the wind.

Anonymous said...

Why would I spit into the wind?

Anonymous said...

So Reilly is the next victim I see in the Dartmouth witch trials. You people are sad and the fact that this blog is allowed to continue without mr. Trimble stepping in to monitor it is even sadder.

Anonymous said...

The evididence against O'Reilly is overwhelming. His only defense so far has been to call other people names.

Anonymous said...

The only name calling I hear is from you.

Anonymous said...

Consolidate Planning, Zoning, Building and Conservation. Then eliminate O'Reilly's position.

Anonymous said...

Donald Perry should head up the new consolidated department.

How about some newer blood?

Final post pending official outcome. Perhaps the next time a certain assistant plumbing inspector(who can't plumb his way out of a paper bag) decides to threaten someone about who can or can't do business in this town with the stipulation that they use him as their plumber, the ConCom Agent won't be so eager to jump on that bandwagon. Also, when you have already extracted a pound of flesh from someone, think twice about being a greedy bully. The outcome could easily have been the same without so much as a peep from me.

A recent Con com in Westport was illegally dismissed a few years ago. They sued the BOS and won. They were no less respectful or professional, they just happened to know their job and upheld the law. Perhaps this Concom is simply volunteering to not create waves. Please let us not model ourselves after Westport.

We don need no stinkn con com agent!
We can trust everyone to do the right thing.
I see we've moved on to the asst plumbing inspector now. Good beating anonymously on the con com agent was getting stale.

The Dartmouth ConCom is a joke. They sit up there making decisions without ever having visited the sight. This is one commission that needs to be watched more closely going forward.
