Governor Patrick considers gas tax hike

From the Boston Globe website here, comes news that Governor Patrick is considering a gas tax hike along with other measures. What do you think?

Mostly benefits Boston area residents as I see it.

He is absolutley insane. A 27 cent gas tax will drive a nail into any recovery effort. I run a small business and the high gas prices last summer nearly put me under. This is absolutely crazy. At least I can say I never voted for him or his presidential counterpart who will no doubt be raising taxes too....

Small business, isn't your fuel bill tax deductible??

Finally a leader with some stones.

Sure it's tax deductible but you still have to pay for it and you don't deduct it all. Some gets passed to the customers too but that reaches a tipping point as well. And I don't happen to go near the Boston tunnels or the Pike.

Taxes. Let's make a deal. I'll give up 50% of my money if I get full free medical and full free education up to any level.

Yeah - 50% sounds about right these days. May be considered a bargain in the not too distant future.

SO it's still deductible correct? I don't get to deduct my fuel bill or cloth's for work or my lunch, dinner and many other things that are dedcutible when you own a business. Small business guys always crying poverty, it's a shame really. Let's make it simple, if your business is failing it's your fault just like when it's profitable it's your doing. When thing's are going good all is well, the moment things go south it's taxation that's the issue. Sad really. Everyday i run into guys like this who cry poverty then drive off in a 50, 60k dollar truck. Gimme a break!!

Hey, I need that truck to launch my boat!!!

There ya go and don't forget your Camping Trailer for when you go hunting with your Bro's UMMMM i mean clients..

Interesting how some people get when they don't want to work hard enough to be successfull. Yup, expensive truck, new one every 2 years too from a local dealer. Got the boat w/twins on the transom, not camper. Yet. Don't hunt. So your argument is work hard to make a go of things and make good money and be happy when some suit up in Boston decides he needs to rob you to pay for tunnels and turnpikes in Boston that I never use. I guess if that's ok with you then there's not much more I can say.
I see your solution works pretty good for you. Sit home, collect off the dole (you can thank me for your checks later) and hop on the SRTA bus to get around. Congratulations!
Me, I'm off to the boat show in Boston.

By th eway, my business is slow but far from failing. You want to know why? About 20 years ago I decided being a working stiff for some other guy was not what I wanted. So I worked my tail off, still do in a business that you'd probably last 10 minutes in, but you're right I can deduct my gas (diesel actuallY), my lunches and the occasional fishing trip to the canyons with good clients. Would'nt trade it for the world. So you stay working for 'the man' and packing those brown bag lunches. Me, I'll do just fine, ridiculous gas tax or no.

Nope, don't have a problem with you at all, ya dun good i applaud you. You are not the guy i speak of, but i am sure in your circle you now the guy or gal i speak of. You know they exist. The business is dying and they find every reason to cry about it, whether it's taxes, slow business, bad decision's on their part. The reasons are plenty, but they can never face themselelves and say it's over and become increasing bitter blaming everone and everything else. These people are everywhere. Enjoy the fruits of what owning your own business brings about, but always asking someone else to make due with less to keep them alive. Sort of like Welfare for the small business owner. OH BTW for the record i don't ride SRTA, never ever collected welfare and my alarm clock goes off at 3:30am leave by 4come walking back thru front door usually after 6pm. Also just so you know i could probably last alot longer than 10 miniutes never encountered a job i couldn't do.

Well we can agree on a few things then. If my business fails it's on me no one else to blame but I don't need the government taking more of what I earn to pay for mistakes they make and to pay for people that don't want to take care of themselves. Sorry about the SRTA crack. Still not sure you'd want a piece of my business though. As they say we're #1 in the #2 department.

So let me see your a plumber?? You guys are exceptional people. Crawling thru a 150 degree attic covered in insulation on a hot sticky summer day to install a ceiling fan is no fun either, DAMN that stuff is itchy.. Do you read many books i have one for you?

Anonymous said...

Close, but I'm not smart enough to be a plumber. I deal with the part that's outside the building. Lots of digging, few moving parts but very dirty.....I do read books, what do you have in mind?
