Iacaponi to serve in interim

Curt Brown posts on his Standard-Times blog that Select Board chair Joe Michaaud and member Diane Gilbert have asked Finance Director Ed Iacaponi to serve as interim town Executive Administrator until a new candidate is selected. Curt reports that Mr. Iacaponi agreed to serve.
I think that this arrangement makes a lot of sense. Mr. Iacaponi is familiar with the town operations and personnel and fills in during times when the current Executive Administrator is away.
From the Dartmouth Beat blog,

Mr. Michaud said he expects the Select Board to discuss and vote on the appointment at its meeting Thursday (2/5) at 5 p.m. in Town Hall.
Mr. Iacaponi said he is willing to take on the task.
...

"I told him (Mr. Michaud) I’ll do whatever is necessary to help the town," he said. "The town has been very good to me and I feel an obligation to do my part."
I'd like to thank Mr. Iacaponi for his willingness to take on the task.

Excellent idea Joe and Diane. The nasty ones must be beside themselves trying to figure out how to criticize this decision. It will save money and provide continuity.

The prior post appropriately illustrates a circumstance in Dartmouth that saddens me.

It's a three-sentence post.

The first sentence nicely compliments an action the writer agrees with.

The last sentence appropriately states why the action was a good thing to do.

But the middle sentence serves only to chide people and call them names. As such, it ruins the entire post.

I'm left believing the middle sentence was the main reason for the post. At this point, I'd almost prefer that people stick their tongues out at each other.

I dont think its a bad thing. Ed is well respect and a truthful man. Many times Gagne has silenced him and would allow truth to prevail. I think with Ed "filling in" this will provide a smooth transition for the new Ex. Admin.

You guys kill me!! Ed is the next head on the chopping block, who are you kidding!! Just be honest and admit it already, the game plan is very transparent.

Great idea! Couldn't be more pleased. Makes the transition easier for employees and saves the taxpayers money. Seems the Select Board majority is trying to work together with everyone after all. It'a a perfect example of compromise.

Ed Iacaponi has said several times in public that he would be retiring after working another year. The rumors never stop! No one said anything about getting rid of Ed I.
Thank you Diane and Joe for making the first step toward a smooth transition.
Now all those who said, Diane, Steve, etc. will finally stop their rumors.

Congratulations to the entire Board of Selectmen. The offer would not have been made to Ed if the 5 members had not discussed it in advance. A unified Board of Selectman working together for the good of the community regardless of their personal difference is what good government is all about.

to anon 3:54, It appears we have become engaged in a game whereby the people who are resisting anything that represents change engage in really nast posting. Then they wait for anyone to say anything in response so that they may attempt to make the responder look like the negative one. The fact is that the nasty posts almost always originate from Saul Raposo and frankly I am concerned about his state of mental health. Instead of trying to use his problem for political gain, perhaps we should all be encouraging him to seek proffesional help.

i'm quite sure DIANE didnt even think about ..she just went along for the piggy back ride...it is election year you know...although having ED as an interim is good idea..doesn't everybody think that it should have been discussed..at least..if your answer is NO..I ask why not. There are still 5 members to the selectboard..even if just a simple majority stuck together ED would be in...was Gilbert and michaud afraid Trimble wouldnt agree..I doubt they have been together for awhile..Why not bring it before the board. come on Joe stop trying to run town hall like YOU OWN IT. YOU are 1/5th of the board..work together

They will all meet, discuss and vote on this in open meeting. Why must you throw in personal attacks against Joe and Diane to get your point across? My guess is that at least one and probably two or three of the others will vote in favor. The personal attacks are needless and in this case, only serve to hurt Stone and Miller's candidacy. Let's be civil and give all the candidates a chance to run on their positions on the issues. If you wouldn't say it on camera at a select board meeting, don't say it here.

Bad idea. Mr. Iacaponi and Mr. Gagne have been joined at the hip on every bad decison that was made in this town. He also lives in New Bedford.

Great idea! Ed knows Dartmouth and people in the town will feel like they have someone at the helm for a couple of months. Ed is qualified to do the job. We need to move forward and get out house in order. Until Mr. Gagne is out of town hall we are stuck in neutral. Let's get into DRIVE.
