Interim doing a terrific job!

I want to take a moment to let you know that I feel that Mr. Iacaponi has really stepped up and is doing a terrific job as interim Executive Administrator. That's on top of getting a very challenging FY2010 budget ready for the Select Board, the Finance Committee and Town Meeting.
Most are little things but they are greatly appreciated. Things like getting my Select Board meeting packet on Thursday, instead of Friday. That gives me Friday to contact town departments if I have questions. Not a big thing but really very helpful.
Ed has been trying to grease the wheels of government to get the utilities run to the new health clinic, the Bullard Center, at the Council on Aging and has made some progress.
Some of you may have been wondering ...

... how things were going while we search for a new Executive Administrator. I'd like to report that they seem to be just fine and thank Mr. Iacaponi for his good work.

Bill, I agree Ed has made alot of difference. I was wondering if Ed could look in to the reason why 3 members of the Historical Commission resigned prior to the election. 1 in Jan 09, 1 in Mar 09 and 1 last Monday. I find it odd that all 3 of these people had publically spoke against the town accepting the Akin House. Were they forced to resign? Has anyone contacted them to find out what was going on? I have the uneasy feeling that Ms. Gilbert may have had something to do with it. Can the SB conduct an investigation and contact these people to find out? I say lets hear whats been going on !

Before you start with the innuendo, why don't you get some facts. Who were the people who resigned? I would like to talk to them.

I would like to add my appreciation of Ed's efforts to Bill's.

I can not begin to describe the difference he has brought to the job. The current 3 years of projected balanced budgets is due entirely to his efforts and his willingness and ability to work with department managers to reduce costs while maintaining services.

Information is available to us faster then ever before and is more inclusive allowing us to make better decisions for the long run.

The changes made free up monies that allow us to address long neglected Educational needs in our schools as well as town wide efficiencies and infrastructure.

I can honestly say I feel very good about the current budget as it is shaping up. We are building a lean and efficient operation that can be affordably built upon from this point onward in spite of the economy.

That said, we have to watch every penny while pursuing regionalization, and further consolidation of departmental functions and personnel where feasible.

We are finally on the right track and Ed is largely responsible for that. Kudo's .......

Agreed. Ed has really stepped up and his efforts are appreciated. I am looking forward to having a new EA who can continue with the progress so ED can go back to doing just one job.

Well done Ed.

It seems from Greg Lynam's comments that Ed's efforts as finance director for the past three years are commendable.

Does Bill mean to say there was nothing of Mike Gagne's efforts worth complimenting. I don't recall ever seeing a comment regarding Mike trying to "grease the wheels of government...", etc. Is it not a testiment to Mike Gagne that things "seem to be just fine" for Ed during his very brief holding of the reigns?

Be sure to let you wife and her friends know so that they can consider dropping the lawsuit against the Interim EA for paying himself while he does such a dandy job!

I really don't think Ed can perform both jobs, he hasn't done great getting info on time to Finance Committee for past 6 years. And he didn't get the insurance prior to awful Officer Mello incident. And there has been no plan or vision for years (Ed always said things were 'premature'), and only this year has there been the five yr. budget projections. Let us be realistic and not look through rose glasses in this case.

What are Ed's thoughts on formulating the plan? Is it possible to at least get an outline started before the next EA? Our FinCom is so outstanding, I'm glad they & EA are able to work together more efficiently. Will Ed have a role in the choice of the new EA?

This Finance Committee is not even a committee. It's two people who are running roughshod over town government. Everything is expendable. Peter and Greg use their bully pulpit to get their own way.

Dartmouth needs to come to its senses before it totally ceases to be the town that we remember.

But what the heck . . . it's all about the buck. Don't give any bucks to the town agencies, but give plenty of money to lawyers and search committees.

$4 million in the stab fund and people are losing their jobs. What are you saving the money for anyway?

It's time that the entire Finance Committee do their own research and come to their own conclusions without Greg's famous MOB.

So who will you attack next in your dirty political campaign? Bashing everyone you do not agree with seems to be your forte'. Well respected members of the Finance Committee, Select Board, private citizens.

If it wasn't for Greg Lynam we wouldn't have an MOB. Since you choose to ridicule it I would imagine you must think we don't need one. Great idea! The Finance Committee should just blindly make recommendations based on what? Feelings???

The energy solutions presented on this site clearly do not take into account what 95% of our scientists agree on. This is the epitome of irresponsibility.

Re: 3 members of the Historical Commission that resigned. The letters were accepted by the BOS. This is public record. If you wish to contact these 3 simply request there names. Visit the towns website I beleive their names are there.

They are Fluffing up Ed because he has come in with a hatchet and cut everything that's why. His a numbers guy it's all about the bottom line with him and that's what he is supposed to do. That is what he is trained to do. That's why Greg and crew are so happy with him. It's ok keep cutting boys, keep our taxes lower and cut more of our services. Then when your balls are up against the wall and you need more money with an override that's when it will get funny around here!! "NO" will still be the answer, then it's welcome to "LAWRENCE"

We ain't Lawrence by any stretch of the imagination and we ain't Wellesly either. Get over it.

$4 million in the stab fund and people losing their jobs. Shall we use the money for a nice little cruise? We need it now. The road to Lawrence is much shorter than the road to Wellesley and it's getting shorter all the time.

Congratulations . . . libertarians unite!

Yes, let's spend the stab fund on some more personnel. Maybe some of Nat's friends and relatives are not yet on the dole. Meanwhile, our roads and buildings crumble.

Anonymous said...

Is it Nat's turn now? How 'bout it people what have we got on Nat? It's gotten a little slow on this blog.

Okay. Let's try a biblical reference. If the Finance Committee were Noah, it would have rained for forty days and forty nights, and they would still be saving the ark for another day.

$4 million in the stab fund and people losing their jobs. Ridiculous.

4 mil in the stab fund is at least 2 mil short of what the state recommends we have.

Anonymous said...

Is that the same state that found that Dartmouth was well run?

This town has been mismanaged and now Ed at retirement after many errors and no plan or acting before sell offs and financial disaster (before the world and state financial issues)... is our salvation, spare me and the rest of us.

Perhaps an employee is as good as his/her supervisor?

I agree that Ed I. is doing a fine job as interim. It's like night and day! Ed knows how to delegate and gets the job done asap!
Thanks Ed!

I believe Barbara Faria still serves upon the Historical Commission. She was intrumental in organizing today's "Celebrate Dartmouth Day" event that had historical & preservation minded groups in town open up and showcase their works.

Perhaps Barbara Faria simply is not seeking reappointment as her term probably ends in June.

As there appear to be vacancies upon the Historical Commission let us hope that others in town will step up and fill those slots. There are undoubtedly a good number of boards & commissions in need of volunteers. Sure, not everyone has the time but if for those who do then maybe they should give some serious thought about serving the town in such a capacity.

Such service may not be for everyone so I thank those of you who take it on!
