New polling places for precincts 1, 3 and 4

From Curt Brown's Standard Times blog

There are three new polling places for this year's elections.

Precincts 1 and 3, which formerly voted at Fire District 3's station on Cross Road, are now voting at the Dartmouth Bible Church, 52 Morton Ave.

Precinct 4, which formerly voted at Smith Mills Church Hall, 11 Anderson Way, moves to The Cedars, 628 Old Westport Road.

Voters in Precinct 2 will continue to use the Smith Mills Church Hall.

Those are the only changes.
The polls open at 7AM and close at 8PM tomorrow Tuesday April 7th.
My preferences in this election are ...

... Diane Gilbert and Frank Gracie for Select Board. That's not news to those who read here frequently. It is pretty much over as far is campaigning goes. All camps will be trying to get out their vote tomorrow. I hope you will go to the polls and exercise your franchise.

Bill

As a North Dartmouth voter, I'm sick of traveling to and from some god unknown precinct. As I observe the town voting locations/precincts I've notice that almost all voters, South end voters, live within a short distance of their voter precinct. I can understand while the South end voters usually decide the town elections. I know/ understand all the gabble goop about the right to vote and blah/blah/blah. Precincts 6 through 10 have not changed location for the past 20 years. They are conveniently located.
North Dartmouth voters, if they choose to vote, must travel a great distance. I know and understand the SB are not in-charge of finding voter precincts, but wouldn't it be nice if the town could designate a town location where voters through out the town could start voting one week before the election. Please don't lecture me about country and duty, I have the scars to show my willingness for battle, all I ask is conformity, when it comes to my right to vote.
Also, I would like to take the opportunity to commend you for becoming a trusted selectman. I didn't vote for you last year, but your the right person for the right time. Don't give up the good fight. Thanks for your valuable service to my town.

There already is such a place USMC and it happens to be in North Dartmouth. Pick up an absentee ballot at Town Hall and your problem is solved. Several of my neighbors have done so and have finished voting as of this past Friday.

Thank you for your service to our country, USMC.

I thought absentee ballots were to be used only if you wouldn't be in town on election day and there was no way you could get to vote?

Not sure that's the case - one of my neighbors is elderly and she has a friend that helps her out on Fridays and Sundays. She picks up her absentee ballot on the Friday when her friend takes her on her errands before elections - never been questioned about it.

Yes, I think you are right. I think it also applies to anyone that is unable to get to the polls, as in your neighbor's case.

Thanks.

I hope there's no more north/south battles.

Thanks for the input on absentee ballots. First of all, absentee ballots are only allowed when a person/voter will be out of town/state, or restricted to hospital, nursing home or other.
No thanks needed for my service to country. During my error, young males, who graduated from high school, but couldn't afford college, are required to join a military branch of service or be subjected to the draft/ jail time. I'm so happy to have returned home safely. Many of my friends never returned and one was a prisoner of war for six years. As t relates to America, I have the greatest of understanding/appreciation. It truly is the land of the free. Thank GOD our flag still waves. What other country would treat our enemies with kids gloves and allow them to walk away, only to return and fight some other day.
Listen, I'll make it to the polls, come hell or high water. I was just expressing my opinion concerning the unfairness as it relates to the North end voter precincts. I'm not sure how the Dartmouth voter turn out will be, but I can guarantee the South end voters, will turn out to vote at a much higher percentage. The elected candidates, shall be determined by the voters in precinct 9/10. Also, the South end voters will out vote the North end voters by 3/1= democracy.

Low voter turn out will favor the incumbents. The winners are Gilbert, Carney for selectmen and Nunes for school committee. Remember this time 5:30 P.M. Before the lights a turned off, voter turn out will increase.

It's really a shame how low our voter turnout is in town. I live in North Dartmouth and feel like I have to drive so far to vote! Why can't we have a polling location that would be more central for North Dartmouth or even vote on Saturday. Not sure, but we should try to increase voter turnout in town, state, and national elections!

voters in North and South Dartmouth have long rides and short rides. People from old westport rd vote across the street from their homes at the Cedars, while people from russells mills rd must drive to the same location. How does that favor South Dartmouth?????? Some people get lucky, others have to drive. Perhaps all polling locations should be at the mall and fast food restaurants, no one seems to mind driving to them.
