I wonder what a new administrator will cost?

One thing Bill left out. They said it was going to cost the town ~$20,000 to complete the search. What happened to the $7500 figure? Is this on top of that now?

The tally begins:
$20,000
$7,500

This new person better be worth it.
What budget line item does this get paid out of?
That amount could have saved someone's part time job next year. We'll just have to see what this will all total up to be when it is over.

Holy smokes, now why was gagne soooooo bad. That's right he was too comfy in his boots and had no self-motivation to do a plan. Hindsight, should have had some novel ideas and a simple plan of action. This is wasting our pennies. STOP THE WASTE.

We'll get some guy from North Dakota.

20,000..that's already 16% of Mike's annual salary...WOW thanks for being frugal..bill dianne and Joe...and what happen when superior court tells you to hire mike back...WOW! way to look after the Tax payer. I thought you guys cared about the bottom line...we need CPR and not Michaud's version...well thanks for deepening the hole by 20 GRAND
CFRG aren't keeping a close eye on the responsible government are they.

If the court says his contract is good, you fire him. The SB didn't want to drag out all his shortcomings but if that's what it comes to... The only loser in that case is Gagne.

The 7,500 was only to get the search going. No one ever said that was all it was going to cost. The town is investing money in an asset i.e. a new town admin. Businesses have to make investments all the time for the future of the company. The old equipment becomes outdated and insufficient to handle the company's needs so it must be replaced. Stop trying to make it sound like wasting money when it is in fact good and wise business practice.

outdated..I haven't seen your evidence in the case of Gagne that makes him outdated..Joe Michaud even said himself that Mike will not have trouble finding work elsewhere... Outdated..ha.
No grounds to fire him either.

Ray and Saul, Wow seven posts today and it's only 4:30. You guys need a life.

Anonymous said...

I wonder whoever is thinking this Ray or Saul is probably Dianne or Bill

Anonymous said...

Of course Joe said that. What is he supposed to say? Mike will never find another job because he is not qualified?

If you go back and look at the older posts, there was alot of negative comments about how much we were/are paying Gagne to do his job. Now, because the anti gagne crowd are advocating spending money to find a replacement and ultimately pay more in annual salary than Gagne, it is good business sense! C'mon folks wake up. When it is all said and done, the price tag is going to be huge. Wait until you tell the new person he does not have any administrative clerical help either.

Good business sense would be to hire a search firm to get a % of the first year's salary of the individual found and hired. There should also be a contract with the search firm to state if the individual does not work out in the first year and leaves, they would have to find a replacement at no charge. That is a typical professional search contract.

I still have not received an answer to my question. What account does this search money get paid out of?

Do we need an override to pay for it?

Anonymous said...

It gets paid out of the Select Board budget and no you do not need an override to pay for it.

This is truly frustrating.

Why appoint a search committee if the work is going to be done by someone else being paid $20,000?

How did something that was projected to cost $7,500 a few weeks ago swell to now cost $20,000? That's either bait & switch, poor planning, being substantially clueless as to reality, or all of the above.

I guess we're launching the proverbial "nationwide search" for the bestest administrator known to mankind. How fortunate are we? We're going to get the number one guy or gal on the planet! And for the rock-bottom bargain-basement price of twenty grand!

Dartmouth leaders should use the $7,500 to run ads in professional publications (Mass Municipal Ass'n, et al.) and major regional newspapers (Boston Globe, et al.) and then have the volunteer committee conduct interviews and recommend a short list of finalists to the Select Board.

The additional $12,500 is an unnecessary expenditure. Those who attempt to rationalize it with their posts are nothing more than loyalists to the owner of this blog. They'd rationalize and support anything Trimble supports.

This is a small but illustrative example of the adage "Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts, absolutely." These three Select Board members now know they can do whatever they want. And they are.

$7,500 to $20,000 in just a few weeks = do as I say, not as I do!

Who says it gets paid out of the SB budget? Look for the famous reserve fund transfer to cover this nut.

Anonymous said...

A Reserve Fund transfer has already been approved for $7,500 for the search

20,000 dollars, and climbing That is a town employees PART- TIME job spent to find a person in Oregon, or any of the other 50 States..HEy Sara Palin has experience why not contact alaska

Let's compare and contrast Gagne's salary to Mayor Lang...oh Mayor Lang gets paid less than 100k for his Job and Mike gets 120k...but WAIT the mayor has seven asst. in his staff Mike has ZERO lets say Mayor Lang gets 89k plus 40,000per staff 40,000 times 7 280,000 almost a 300k for the mayor's office and mike gets 120k I think that is very FAIR but everybody wants something for nothing especially trimble michaud and GILBERT. they CRY foul when the TM cost taxpayers 7000 to improve the charter to better serve the public but 20K and counting for a firm that hasnt even started working yet..way to go guys I hope the public remembers this

Anonymous said...

I hope they remember this in april

Anonymous said...

they will I wont let them forget...fiscal mismanagement

Anonymous said...

Gagne is gone because he has not provided leadership in dealing with the town fiscal crisis.Instead he gave sweetheart contracts to himself and others. That's the issue. If he needed more help then he could have budgeted and hired them. He runs the town. Gilbert has and she will be re-elected because of it. Carney's clueless and he will not be re-elected. Gracie is good. I don't know anything about the other guy yet.

Anonymous said...

Yeah Gracie's good. He's the first one to tell you that so it must be true. Define sweetheart deal, no raises were guarenteed, only deal was if you did a good job you kept your job despite how the political winds blew. yep ruined our town.

Anonymous said...

The reserve fund transfer went to the Select Board budget to pay for the search committee just the same way it happened for that ridiculous special town meeting. The whole process of the search committee was explained in full by the Select Board. It's too bad that you were not able to comprehend it or just didn't want to so that you could try to turn it into some conspiracy theory.

Anonymous said...

10:28, Where are you coming from?

Anonymous said...

sweetheart deal = your employment is guaranteed at the same pay and benefits even if your job is eliminated. Gagne did not do the job and he is not being rehired. you got a problem with that?

Anonymous said...

Gagne DID NOT put that in the contract, because AMZINGLY it is no feasable to WRITE your own, don't blame MIke for what is in his contract he didnt write it

Anonymous said...

READ ATTY. Bartuleous's letter...it seems someone other than Mike may have wanted ..now Mike is catching the shrapnel for some else's GREED. we have alot of departments in the BLACK because of MIKE and the reserve fund is bubbling with extra cash, which by the way is how we are searching for a new EA, the reserve fund that MIKE helped make soooo healthy is going to pay for searching for a new EA ...Karma you gotta love it. Remeber that mr Dali LAMA "trimble"

Anonymous said...

Anon 11:18: Michael DID NOT have to support someone else's request for such protective provisions. He has the ability to speak up and say "NO" to this individual. Don't you think he should have done that?

Everyone at that meeting had something to gain, including him. Stop making excuses for him.

Anonymous said...

Mike Gagne is responsible for overseeing contract negotiations. This is clearly specified in the charter.

Anonymous said...

MIke doesn't VOTE on it.WAKE UP!!!
